I am trying to figure out how to be able to play backups. I keep my PS3 in a server room (Closet) and would like to be able to play games without getting into the rack every time I want to change a game. I dont care about anything else. cech-2501a is the model. I think it is firmware 4.20 or 4.25 Definitely above 3.55. I think from what I read I need a hardware device to downgrade? Can I do it without downgrading? and/or without a hardware flasher?

Hardware is your only option. Or you pay someone to do it for you.

First use Min. Version checker PUP, to see what the minimum firmware of your PS3 is.

Not all of cech-2501 can be downgraded. You should check before spending $.

Yep you are going to need hardware to downgrade, its the only way.

Cobra ODE looks awesome. I think I might go with that when its released. Pretty Cool.

Just an FYI for anyone who finds this thread, 3k3y makes the same thing as the Cobra and according to them you need to be on 3.55 or lower to get the Drive key. Once you have the key you can update. (A way sony makes sure the right drive is used with the system.) I assume this will be the same in cobras device but they do not say.
