ok, we are focussing now on the nor, but what if the tristate is soldered to ground should'nt the ps3 stay on then, i mean the system is halted and the nor is not accessed yet?

Not if there's a hardware fault MR.Fuse it will close its self off

I fear opening the console has damaged the solder under one of the main BGA's
I have done this removing early consoles from the heat sync as the paste is usually like glue

The board came away from the heat sinks fairly easy compared to some I've had apart. I can honestly hold my hand on my heart and openly admit I may have done the damage turning the micrometer a little to tight. I'll stick with tape and foam in future. Live and learn I say.

Yeah mate clip was on correct, even if not it wouldn't have done damage, speaking from experience of my 1st downgrade when I had it wrong way around.

Pffff as if you don't know that

Ps I know you have chalked it down but do you fancy sending it me to look at I did a USB fault earlier the mr.fuse recommended customer to me for same problems ended up by passing power controller ic and removing it completely for it to boot (just love a task)
