To get a good gaming rig that runs optimal for all games would cost upwards of $500 currently. And goes up to $10,000

Are you kidding me? $10 000? Unless you don't know what the hell you're doing!

You build a pc through web deals, you also avoid crap like alienware, which aren't even legit gaming rigs.

If you want to go all out and make the ps4 look like crap, you would need 800-$1000 tops...throw in a extra 150 if you want SSD, when you get to the 2500 dollar mark, you're officially building an enthusiast's PC. It's not even fair to compare and it's really for E-peen more than actual benefits.

If you want something equal about 6 or 700. Don't forget you're also getting something more than just a dedicated gaming rig.

$599 release price for PS3. I recently just built my rig at somewhere between $400-$500. I know how to find good deal though. Being able to upgrade is a pro for me, rather than a con. How cool would it be if you could put more ram in your PS3? I have no regrets with my PC. I'll upgrade my i7 in about a year and sell my old one to somewhat offset the price. We'll most likely be able to use the PS4 controller with the PC as well. The specs of my PC are already at a higher level than the rumored specs of the PS4.

@GregoryRasputin You forgot to mention the most important advantage over a PC (at least for me) - PS exclusive titles . At least I hope that PS4 will have some good exclusives, just like PS3 and PS2 do (Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, GT series...)

Took the words out of my mouth. What he should have been asked after that was..."How was ps3 any different to ps4 with regards to comparing it to computers?"

That could be said against comparing consoles in general which brings us back to the question on why does this guy/people in general insist on comparing the two when they are meant for different things

Consoles can cost a LOT, as PS3 did when it was released. Today it's pretty cheap, but the hardware isn't really up to date. Also, convenience is dependent on what someone needs from his console: someone might like having all the additional features like movies, music, web browsing, someone might not care about these at all. PCs always give you everything you might need, including apps for regular work - that's not happening on consoles.
