PS3 "freezes" before the XMB can start up
What model number is your PS3?
Some fat model. What firmware is your PS3 on? 4.30 Is it a software problem? Yes If it is a software problem, have you made sure that you have downloaded the latest version of this software? As far as I could find. Are you running CFW? Yes What CFW are you running? Rogero Is your console bricked? No Have you ever downgraded your console with hardware flashers? (Teensy, ProgSkeet, E3 Flasher, etc...) I mailed it to someone to have them do it for me once. Have you tried searching the forum for someone experiencing the same problem before posting? Yes Describe your problem: I was trying to use a relatively old method to play original PS2 discs, involving replacing files in dev_flash and then entering Factory Service Mode. I enabled write permissions for dev_flash and pasted the appropriate files into dev_blind. The files copied in a matter of seconds, and I assumed that everything went as it should. I quit Multiman back to the XMB, but before the XMB fully loaded it flashed the message "You must first sign up for the Playstation Network." several times, after which the system froze. I turned it off, then turned it back on. The "Rogero" splash screen displayed without problem, but it just hung after that. The waves that are usually behind the XMB continued to animate, but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. What have you tried to do to resolve this issue yourself: Multiple restarts have not fixed the problem. I can enter the PS3's recovery menu, but I don't know how that will fix it. Considering that I overwrote files in the vsh folder, I imagine that's the problem, and that if I restore the backup of my dev_flash that I made it will fix the problem, but I don't know how to do that with the state it's currently in. |

I have tried that a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

How do I go about doing that, exactly? Spend another $50 to have someone flash it for me? The whole point of posting this was to see if there is an alternative to that.
