Hello everyone I'm looking for some help on how to jailbreak my ps3 slim, 320 gb console. I have seen many YouTube vids on how to but they all require a survey. I'm looking for a JB that can play on the psn and be used for homebrewing. I believe my firmware is up to date. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're on the latest OFW then you need to use a HW Flasher to downgrade to 3.55 before you can install CFW, this is only if your model can be downgraded. Check those threads for instructions:

Copy into /PS3/UPDATE and try to install from XMB. This should tell you which is the lowest version you can install on your ps3.

If it says 3.56 or lower, then you will need a hardware flasher. Like e3 flasher.
If it says 3.60 or higher, then you are out of luck. No jailbreak or downgrade possible.

So do I need to make a folder on my portable hd? Then install to ps3? I'm new to nodding lol

Yeah, external HDD or Flash Drive. Make sure it's formatted to fat32.

Yes.

On a FAT32 formatted USB drive:

Make a folder named PS3
Inside that folder, make a folder named UPDATE
Inside that folder, put the PS3UPDAT.PUP file I linked you to.

Put the USB in the PS3, and navigate to System Update.
Choose from Storage media, and try to install the PUP.

It won't install. Instead it will give you an error, and tell you the lowest minimum firmware your PS3 can go to.

Okay but I only have one portable hdd with tons of stuff on it (400Gb). Is there any way to format it to FAT32 without looking data? & will I be able to play on the PSN as well?

If you struggle to overcome this step then you may as well forget about jailbreaking.

Look down the back of the sofa for a USB stick.

No you can't, you'll loose everything once u format. Get a flash drive.
You can get onto PSN on CFW but you risk getting banned.

First find out if u can downgrade, then worry about getting onto PSN.

Yes, there is a program that will change your drive from NTFS to FAT32. Without loosing any data. I can't remember what it was called. Try and Google for it.
