So I'll need to convert to Cex before updating. Will I only need to go to the Rebug toolbox to do this or will I need to do something in addition?
Also, with me being on Dex, is that the reason the option to "Update via storage" on the XMB is greyed out?
To go back to CEX use the guide @DEFAULTDNB linked you to.
http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=45455

Folow it step by step and you'll be fine.

The option update via storage could also be greyed-out because the update isn't in the right folder on the pendrive.
It should be:
(X:\PS3\UPDATE\PSUPDAT.PUP)

Evil, something I've been wondering about for a while; why does everyone think you need to write slots and have say up to 6 (or however many games) can be played at once when using DEX and BDEMU?

I have a USB hub/vertical stand and I connect my USB HDD to one of those ports, and the Fake BDEMU USB stick in the right port on PS3.

I don't think this method has really been publicised, have you heard of it? I found out how to do it through trial and error, but yeah, connecting my USB HDD to a USB hub works just fine... No need for writing slots in that PS3 Generator tool.

Using psgen and bdemu was first used when the cex2dex method was leaked.
When using this method you could parrition your hdd with a limited number games on the same hdd.
You allso needed an official sony patch for the game to get it to run on a dex console.

Later the fake bdemu method was introduced to run all games diskless on a dex converted ps3.
This involves building a fake game iso with ps3gen and letting multiman mount a game over the fake game image.

It's been documented in the 'Play games diskless' thread here on hax.

Right. Yes. I don't think it's been well documented though because before I went to DEX, after reading up on it it still was not clear. And noone knew about it when I opened up a thread about it on here. I had to work it out for myself.

Yeah I didn't know about it then.My laser died on me about two weeks ago. When I looked for a solution the answers where allready there.
But its like most thing ps3 related. The information is there, but scatterd all around. The trick is to put 2 and 2 together and a lot of trail and error. For me, at least, thats half the fun of having a jailbroken ps3.

I agree with all of your post apart from there being fun in trial and error. I think it's a pain in the ass lol.

When you look back at PS1 & PS2; man it was so easy pirating games back then, you didn't have to worry about firmware versions, updates, EBOOT patches etc etc...

I agree somewhat, but I think that PC like architecture might help as well.

Either way, PS3 is secured for a while still. I'm sure PS3 and 360 will be continually being supported by third parties, simply for the high userbase. It's what happened with PS2, I'm sure it will happen the same with PS3. Evidence shows already they are adapting this strategy: Watch Dogs (PS3 & PS4), Battlefield 4 (PS3 & PS4). Any others people care to mention?

I won't be hacking my PS4 this time anyway unless I have the cash to buy another. I have a strong feeling Sony will be much more vigilant this time when it comes to banning.
