[Tutorial] How to convert .mkv files without quality lost

Preconditions
tsMuxeR software. Download here

The conversion process using tsMuxeR is a very simple one. It consists of adjusting a few settings, which you can see highlighted in the screenshot on the right.

The video or audio content is not actually converted at all. All tsMuxeR does is that it extracts (demuxes) the video and audio from the Matroska .MKV file and wraps them (muxes) to a .ts transport stream format. The video or audio remain untouched, so the quality is not impacted and the process is very fast.

Perform the following steps:
Open a .MKV file with AVC/AC3 content using the Add button
Observe the track info for AVC profile information. If it shows a value higher than 4.1, then use the Change level function to adjust it down to 4.1
Choose TS muxing as Output
Click browse button and choose the name and location for your file
Click Start muxing to begin

After a few minutes you should have files named filename.ts. Now all you need to do is to burn the .TS file on a DVD-R(W), or transfer via RedKawa to your PS3.

i was converted and played around 10 .mkv movies without any problem.

Im using Nero Burning ROM to write the files. DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) compilation whit UDF 2.01 File system version.

I use 2.5 UDF file system. Here is what I do differently.

1.)Load my MKV into tsmuxer.

2.)Make sure your video is 4.1

3.)Choose BluRay as ouput

4.)Choose your output file destination.

5.)Start muxing

6.)Once Muxing is complete you should end up with two folders, BDMV and certificate.

7.)Load Nero Burning Rom choose UDF DVD with no multisession and manually change UDF to 2.5 then click new on the bottom of the window.

8.)Drag the BDMV folder into the left window of Nero Burning Rom then drag the Certificate folder right underneath that. Burn.

You will end up with a fully functional AVCHD disc that works on PS3s and stand alone BluRay players. If you prefer this method then make sure the video file you are working with is either 1280x720 or 1920x1080. Most MKVs on the net are not these resolutions. If you run into this problem you are going to need to resize the video first.

Hey, is there a way to Convert these files from MKV to TS USING a .srt subtitle?

the only method i found is hardsubbing them on a .vob file using mkv2vob.

You can use GOTSENT for converting mkv to PS3 compatible files.
Works even for XBOX360
