PS3 Firmware Tricks, fas format or full format?

Hello every one, I will try tonight to make my demo ps3 working with a retail firmware.

SO I'm here now :
- PS3 demo with 2.10 firmware.
-I have ps3updat 2.51 demo & ps3updat retail 2.52.

I will make the HDD swap ( having 3 ps3 at home )

But here is my deal, do we need full formatting or fast formatting of the HDD

I know that's a weird question but nobody tells about that.

Maybe it's important to do a full format to have really clean HDD?

If it works, I will tell it to everybody and post a tutorial on how to make demo to retail.

Thanks in advance to the one who will answer ( I hope it will be PIRATE as I will be sure of the answer as it's a real guru :-) )

You need to get 2 HDDs that are exactly the same size and put one in the PS3 (HDD1). From there you have to take the retail update and put it on a USB stick in PS3/UPDATE. You then let the PS3 extract the data to HDD(1) and turn it off when it reaches the updater screen and says "press the PS button to continue". Then swap HDD(1) with HDD(2). Then put the kiosk update in PS3/UPDATE. Then let the PS3 extract the kisok firmware and wait for it to get to the "press the PS button to continue" screen. Follow through the update until you get to the licence agreement and swap HDD(2) with HDD(1) while it is still running. Then follow through with the install.
You are going into unexplored territory, so be careful.

Thon0925 is experienced in this kind of situations (firmware swap's), so listen to his advices wiselly... he learned alot from those firmware swaps but it came to greater cost, he lost his ps3... so when he says be carefull, he really means it...

First of all, many thanks for your help ...but :

the ps3 demonstration doesn't want any of the update retail I put in my usb key,
it says there is no updatable data on the storage unit :-(

the demonstration firmware actually in it is version 2.10.

I have test so far :
-retail 2.16 / 2.17 /2.52

Any Idee?

Thanks.

You could try to setup a proxy that intercepts the update request and gives the PS3 a retail update instead of a kiosk update.
Download and install this, http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=92
then run the program in PS3 mode with your PCs IP address in the text box and configure your PS3 to use the proxy, by entering your PCs IP address in the PS3s proxy settings. Then do an internet connection test. You should get a log with 2 links in it. One will be to a page with some text and one will be the actual .pup file. Go to the replace files tab and paste the link that points to the .pup file in the text box and on the other side select your retail .pup update. (make sure it is the retail one, or you might update to a latter kiosk firmware) You should be able to follow the guide I posted if it works.

first part of your idee is working but when downloading file through my computer as proxy, it's blocked a 81% (done two times and it makes the same so I conclude it's not a connexion bug)

So my question is this one : is it possible to put debug firmware and then going from debug to retail?

thanks.

try using a different retail firmware version, (2.52 for example) also just a general question, a little of topic but may help. anyone know if any of the hardware in a demo unit is different? is the blueray drive firmware locked? that sort of thing, as It may reject retail firmware because of something like this,

MadS,

to my knowledge is exactly the same and simply firmware locked.

I have tryed so far the proxy tricks with retail firmware :
-2.52 (lock at 81%)
-2.10 ( error at 59% data not compatible with error code )

trying 2.16 at this time...but this firmware is special ( from prologue ) and is 256mb size

-2.16 : lock at 82%

Debug firmware 2.15 not recognized on usb key... really hard to bypass demo mode :-(

-2.15 debug trought proxy : lock at 82% too , seems impossible to bypass without making a downgrade with infectus....

Need some advice of a reel pro ( I have infectus 2 but it's harder work than software method)...

You could dump the current firmware with Infectus and then update to 2.50 and try to launch updates from the recovery menu.

my problem is that I can't find demo/kiosk firmware rev 2.50 only 2.51 wich doesn't have the recovery menu . ( I don't really know ..could you confirm?)

If you have a link to that kiosk/demo firmware, or if you can upload it, please let me know.

For the infectus, that's a lot of job ( currently trying to unbrick a ps3 with it, very hard soldering, not very safe to do for me on a working system )

There is another option maybe, As I have 2 ps3 working ( one retail and one demo ) maybe can I make 2.52 update on the retail, backup HDD content when it reboots. Then launch the 2.42 or 2.51 demo update on the demo unit, and when it restarts, put of the HDD and inject the data of the retail in it.

Sounds pretty logic to me, but is there a tool that allow me to retrieve files inside the ps3 hdd? ( I have already tested swapping disc from demo to retail, but the ps3 demo tell me I MUST format the HDD as it is invalid - so HDD is crypted unit per unit too?? )

Please help me achieve this, if I can do that I can post a mega tutorial for everyone....
