What should I do in this situation?
It seems apparent that the Service mode in the PS3 can manage the pairing between the motherboard and the blu-ray drive controller. Unfortunately the controller I have went bad, but I do have another. (Origional is A1, the other I have is A2). I was thinking of preforming a NAND swap, but in all honesty I'm not that experienced with BGA and the likes.
What do you think I should do guys? Wait until someone reverse engineers the JIG for service mode (If in fact it can pair a different board in the first place) and/or releases a method of building one? Or bite the bullet and get out that heat gun, and then hope for the best? I'm out on a limb here! Thanks guys! |

i would say wait till reverse the JIG for service mode.... but if i was in your situation i would defenently bite the bullet as you said... its safer to wait... but i wouldn't...

So tempting, but I'm afraid I'll kill it, I've been practicing but those stupid NANDs are so teeny tiny, and the pin spacing leaves no room for error.
Decisions decisions decisions! I wonder if anyone has the proper equipment to do this, I sure dont. I have: Heat Gun(250F-1100F) Desoldering Braid Soldering iron (15W, 30W, 15-50W, and one Butane) Thin solder, silver, the works. Flux..etc I just cant seem to be able to reball those suckers right! |

Okay-- I bit the bullet and did the nand swap.
Here is my issue: I think I accidentally cooked my IC ( I hadn't pushed the foil all the way down, no big deal, just buy another IC). I dont know how to tell if the NAND Swap worked. Would it be safe to assume if I saw the blue light come on and flash a few times, and act as if it was reading it (The motor wouldnt spin due to me torching that IC) I know last time I failed a NAND swap, it just acted as if no drive was connected. Thanks! |

Ok
Aaaaaaaand....IT WORKED! So a successful nand sawp it was! I just ordered a new IC. I assume it is not safe to attempt to install this with a heat gun, and to solder each lead very very carefully? |
