No, it won´t work for you or anybody else with the 80gb ntsc model. it also doesn´t work with the 60gb PAL models

I'm having the same issues with pressing up and L2. My swap magic disc is the DVD 3.6+ version. When I press up and L2, nothing happens. I can press X and square to try to boot but swap magic restarts itself once, and if I try to boot from the swap magic menu again, I get the black screen and it kicks me back to the XMB.

Hi there,

There's a point which confuses me. I own a 60 GB PAL PS3 which logically should have the emotion engine (because of the CECHC label on the back), is that right?

The tutorial says that no PAL PS3 will run ISO's, but I actually don't understand why... Or does the CECHA, CECHB, CECHC, CECHD label only matter on US and Japanese PS3's?

However, I wanted to try it, but unfortunately my PS3 doesn't recognize the copies of Swap Magic 3.6. I burnt both CD and DVD from an ISO file with PowerISO but can't boot any of them. Can anyone tell me why?

Thanks in advance and greetings from Luxembourg!

idone,

Ah balls man, things don't look to good for the PAL ps3 then.. although in the thread it did say something about PAL getting some sort of support. Im sure thousands and my myself included, don't wanna be left out in the cold. That said there's been some great progress though :D

Misaer, I think there's a little e(which is its region code) after the CECHC on pal units, yeah it may backwards compatibility but its slightly crippled (plays only 70% of ps2 games.) Anyway the PAL had its EE chip taken out, replaced with software emulation.

I'd imagine it applies to your unit as well. As it's a 60 GB it should have its EE chip in, but it was a miss interpretation 60GB PAL+no EE Chip... =higher compatibility but not full. That's why most 60GB EU owners feel like they have been sold short.

No PAL machine has the EE.

The author of this said they'd try to get it to work on PAL machine, but in this thread, stated it's pretty much impossible.

So basicly, either someone reverse engineers the USB Loader software or makes one
of their own.

Mikkuru, how hard would it be to reverse engineer the USB loader? As its a home-brewed piece of software, theres gotta be some chance, surely?

Hard if not nearly impossible. I'd say the later.
Someone who allready knows PS2 well could and should build a team at PS2 dev
to make their own USB Loader or so I think.

Note:
No, you'r high school coding wont cut it, so don't volunteer.
No, if you know slightly jave/C etc, you won't cut it.
No, if you don't know Linux or PS2 architechture, you won't cut it.
No, you won't learn it over night.

Bottom line, if you fall to the above categories, don't go bothering the good
folks at ps2dev.
