[TUTORIAL]How to background download game patches/updates
Download and intall:
PS3Proxy from http://www.haxnetwork.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=92 Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 (this might be already installed) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Note: If you already have PS3Proxy set up then skip to the red line Run PS3Proxy (installed in X:\Program Files\CF3B5\PS3.ProxyServer) Input your PC's IP address ![]() Input any port number in PS3Proxy Click Start -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't know how to get the address open Start, Run (or click the Windows Key + R) then type cmd In CMD type ipconfig, your IP address should be shown: ![]() -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now go to Network Settings in the PS3 ![]() ![]() Select Yes then select Custom and keep on pressing right till you get to the Proxy Server settings. ![]() ![]() Select "Use" then input the same IP address and port you used in PS3Proxy ![]() Then keep on clicking right and save the settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign into PSN and start a game for which a patch/update has been released (I will be using Burnout Paradise in this tutorial as version 1.7 has just been released) ![]() ![]() Click on "Ok" to start the update. Let the update start (i.e. to display 0%) then cancel it. (You can play or use your PS3 in any other way while you're downloading the file to your PC) The PKG link should appear in PS3Proxy's Log section ![]() (Those who want to download BP v1.7 like this here's the link: http://b0.ww.np.dl.playstation.net/t...g?product=0085) Download the PKG file to your PC. After it is downloaded, switch to the "Replace Files" section/tab in PS3Proxy. Enter the link of the update/patch (PKG link) into the first text box and the file to replace it with in the second text box ![]() Now start the game again (remember to sign into PSN first). ![]() Click "Ok" again The update should start (if the PS3 stays for more than 30 seconds on the "Please wait" part restart PS3Proxy, remove links in "replace files" and add them again) The update will be downloaded quickly as it's being downloaded locally (speed depends on your router and connection to router) After it's donwloaded (took me one minute to download the BP update), it will be installed. This has been tested and IS working on the latest firmware. Here are more pics: ![]() ![]() This should solve the problems users with slow connections (or those who can't stand waiting) are having when downloading updates. Enjoy

With game updates you cannot download them in the background, but with this tutorial it means you can download them in the background, allowing you to use your PS3 as you normally would.

PS3 proxy can still be used to download patches even though skipping firmware updates was blocked
I have tested this with UT3
