heys guys...
every time I load a game disc in my ps3 it freezes before I can start a match, this happens with all the games, before I used to be able to play a little, but now it freezes before I have the chance, it has been getting gradually worse over the past few days.

When I say freeze, sometimes Im able to press the PS button and the XMB will come up, but sometimes it wont and I have to switch of my PS3 from behind.

NOW...
Then when I try to switch it on again, using the controller while the ps3 is on standy by, the controller flashes and nothing happen to the ps3. So I walk up to the ps3 and press the on button and it comes on.... the I click the disc to start up a game, it comes up with an error, and the game fails to load up.................... I then have to switch out of take out and put the game back in for it to work.

As I have said the freezing has got gradually worse over the past few days... let me explain. It started when I was playing FIFA 09 on 2 player, it froze up about halfway through a match. Then I started up again. It froze half way through a match. This kept happening earlier and earlier. It got to the point that it actually froze before a match could be started. And it isnt just FIFA any more, Resistance 2... PES 2009.... everything thats on a disc....

But Wipeout doesn't freeze (its downloaded to the HDD), and I watched a DVD yesterday, so I'm thinking its the bluray reader... but I really have no idea about these things...

SOLUTIONS?
My 1 year guarantee has recently expired and I really dont wan't to have to pay for repairs to the playstation... , is this fixable in any way???


note: I have over 10 gig free on my ps3, it is in a ventilated area and does not over heat. I have backed up my saves tonight just incase my ps3 dies....

Your lens is dead
Is the error 80010514?
WipEout HD works because, as you said, it's installed onto the HDD
The same problem happened to me, BDs stop first, DVDs will stop working after a while, CDs will follow
(When you switch off the PS3 from the back, you turn off everything in it, including the Bluetooth part in it which detects that you pressed the PS button, this is why your PS3 doesn't turn on, it's normal)

The lens is dead. go get it repaired or you can take up this offer on the ps3 site. called continous play.

ok my ps3 doesnt play disc i opened myself and i noticed that when i put in a dic it doesent spin but the lazer still shines......can anyone help me?

It isn't fixable the lens are dead. Sony is the only one that can help you. Sorry

It is fixable, change the drive and swap the small BD controller board.
