i think you dont need it if you stay on dex.. but i read you have to use special pups if going down from 4.11dex or 4.20dex to 3.55dex...

and the only way back cex2dex is from 3.55dex to 3.55cex atm only with dehashed 3.55 cex cfw.... thats for sure.. also the 3.55dex have to be patched..

but i think you know that better than me?!?

Is there a safe way back to CEX yet, as going from DEX to CEX seems to be how most people are getting there bricks?

Should you have included a step when you also get a CEX nor flash dump using mM? Or it is not needed as the CEX dump made from mM and CEX dump made from Memdump v 1.01 are identical?

    Thanks.

Also, there's only one thing holding me back from Dex yet. I've been reading a lot on the forum and from what I gather the Format HDD for BD Emu utility wipes out your entire external HDD. Could any of the more experienced Dex users confirm this? I only have one external for backup porpuses and I've split it into two different partitions, one NTFS for my pc's backup and a smaller FAT32 one for usage on the ps3. By formating my HDD on Dex will my NTFS files go bye bye?

Ok the dehashing is causing alot of confusion, so I did some more research and it appears that Syscon values change as you upgrade to higher than 3.56 and when you downgrade back these values remain for both CEX and DEX, as these are not the correct values for the firmware (3.55) as the value of the higher firmware remains they cause bricks, that's why "no hash check" firmwares are used during downgrading as it skips Syscon checks. So if you never downgraded on OFW and remain on 3.55, dehashing is not needed and makes no difference as the Syscon values are correct and cannot be dehashed. However going from DEX back to CEX requires using a "no hash check" CEX firmware where Syscon values are overlooked to allow the firmware to boot even though there not correct. Only then is Dehashing needed when back on CEX from DEX to make the Syscon values correct for 3.55 CEX. So if you have never downgraded and want to go to dex, you don't need to dehash and it won't make any difference because you have a console with correct syscons.
    ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
dehashing is only useful and needed when downgrading, as it always requires a firmware that skips Syscon checks also known as "no hash check firmwares". As after a downgrade say from 4.20 using e3 flasher to 3.55 the 4.20 Syscon remains even when on 3.55 using a firmware skips these checks, however to install any firmware the Syscon need to be reset and not just skipped this is known as "dehashing". Also needed when going from DEX back to CEX

If you dehash the way you describe in this guide, you will brick your ps3.
If you use reFSM way to dehash, you need to install OFW3.55 twice in FSM.
IMO the Qa way is the easiest way to dehash.
    QA way

    1. Patch as normaldowngrader (ROS 0/1 + RVK prg/pkg)
    2. install prepatched firmware in service mode

Above is already done ifyou just downgraded

    1. Install and run QA-toggle andmake sure it beeps as written in that readme Note: for above to work, you need a BD drive connected andmarried tothe console. Note: to make sure you enabled QA, not accidently disable it,dothe buttoncombo(ifitshows menu, then console is QA-flagged correct. Remove the QA-toggle package to prevent it from getting QA-flag reset). Set your cursor on NetworkSettings andpressthe keycombo(all at the sametime): L1+L2+L3(press_left_stick)+R1+R2+dpad_down

    1. Poweroff console
    2. Put unpatched official firmware (e.g. 3.55 ) on USB Mass Storagedevice as /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP andinsert inPS3
    3. Boot into Recovery Menu , select "6. System Update" to reinstall firmware.
    4. If installation finishes without error (there will be no logs you can check!) and boots XMB OK, then dehashing was successful.
Congrats, you now finished downgrading and dehashing. Console runs 3.55 and any firmware of choice can be installed, no longer needing to be patched for downgrader.

    reFSM way

    1. Patch as normaldowngrader (ROS 0/1 + RVK prg/pkg)
    2. install prepatched firmware in service mode

Above is already done if you just downgraded

    1. Put console in service mode with JIG (in case you left service mode and ran the prepatched firmware in normal mode)
    2. Use normallv2diag.selfandunpatchedofficialfirmware (e.g. 3.55 ) on USB Mass Storagedevice inroot andletthe systemreinstallthat infactory service mode (FSM).
    3. After installation is finished console will turn off. Check UPDATER_LOG.TXT in root of USB Mass Storage device (it should have "manufacturing updating SUCCESS(0x8002f000)" in end section).
    4. If everything is OK, then reinsert USB Mass Storagedevice and let it install again.
    5. After installation is finished console will turn off. Check UPDATER_LOG.TXT in root of USB Mass Storage device (it should have "manufacturing updating SUCCESS(0x8002f000)" in end section).
    6. If everything is OK, then console should now be dehashedandnolongerbrick withanyunpatchedfirmwares.
    7. Replace lv2diag.selfforhe one gettingout ofservice mode andputinroot.
    8. Power on console, it should turnoff andnot boot XMB.
    9. Remove USB Mass Storagedevice andbootconsole normally.Ifallwentwell itshould load toXMB now.
Congrats, you now finished downgradingand dehashing. Console runs 3.55andanyfirmware of choice can be installed, no longer needing to be patched for downgrader.
