[Guide] Convert PCSX2 memory cards or PS2 PSV files to PS2 Classics Memory Cards

In this guide I'll attempt to explain how to convert PCSX2 memory cards, or PS2 PSV files(usually used on BC PS3s) to a VME file, which is the format that PS2 Classics use. It's a bit of a work in progress since new tools and discoveries seem to be made daily so far.

You do NOT need CFW or a hacked PS3 to use the created VME files, as long as you have a USB stick or a USB hard drive that the PS3 recognizes. You also do NOT need eid_root_key to encrypt or decrypt VME files.

If you plan on using these files with MultiMAN or CaptainCPS-X's PS2 Classics Manager, you don't need to place the encrypted VME files in the directories this guide suggests. Instead, place the files where MM or CPSX's managers/guides suggest.

    Requirements:
    1. ps2classic.exe by u$er or aldostools' ps2classic GUI
    2. PSV Exporter(only if you're converting PSV files or converting PS2 saves to some other format)
    3. PS2 Save Builder(only if you're converting PSV files or converting PS2 saves to some other format)
    4. MyMC
    5. Flatz's update_vmc_hashes.exe
    6. A PCSX2 memory card file, or some other form of PS2 memory card image. You can download a blank one here.
    7. (OPTIONAL) New bat files I wrote to do batch memory card encryptions/decryptions: https://anonfiles.com/file/c940d091f...7142d64e5dd015
    8. (OPTIONAL) PS2 Save Converter: good for if you need to edit timestamps on saves that require them for "security".

This guide will be divided into 3 parts: 1. Using PSV Exporter and PS2 Save Builder to process your PSV file[s], 2. Using MyMc & Encrypting your memory card(this is common to the previous two guides), and 3. Converting VME files back to PCSX2-compatible files.

Using PSV Exporter & PS2 Save Builder:

Converting your PS2 virtual memory card to VME(PS2 Classics) format:

Converting a VME file back into a PCSX2 compatible memory card image:

    Spoiler

UPDATE 26/3/2013: For those who fancy BAT files, I've written two BAT files that automate encrypting/decrypting *.ps2 files in the directory that the BAT files are in, as long as ps2classic.exe and update_vmc_hashes.exe are in the same directory as the BAT files. The BAT files will decrypt them to *.VMC files, so will require renaming if you plan on re-encrypting them again. If you want to use these in the guide, just run Encrypt all memory cards.bat after you're done with MyMC instead of section 2 of the guide.

UPDATE 28/3/2013: Added link to ps2classic.exe for those who don't have it, and a "new" optional tool that's useful for editing timestamps on PS2 files, since *.MAX erases them, apparently. Also updated credits to includer U$er for creating ps2classic.exe.

    Credits:
Flatz for releasing how to make custom PS2 Classics and VME files in the first place
MistaWes for writing a quick and rough outline on how to make VME files
    U$er for creating ps2classic.exe
The scene for being awesome lately.
Did I miss anyone else? If so, I'm sorry. Mind's kinda warped after taking ~2 hours to write this guide.

*.ps2 is 1:1 raw memory card image with ECC blocks. The same as vmc used by PS2.
Just rename it and encrypt it.

    sstate from emulator pcxs2
This is not save state. It's virtual memory card. Save state is completely different thing - a ram full dump.

Ohh, thx a lot. I tried with "Mcd001.ps2" from memcard folder, i it works with tutorial "Converting your PS2 virtual memory card to VME(PS2 Classics) format:", but i don't know if i must only encrypt the "sstate" or all memcard... i only want one save, not all memcard.

When you say "/PS3/Export/PS2SD/<your ps2 game’s ID" you say name of slot of memcard??

    Thanks so much!
With this I'm able to play past the Choral Castle freeze on Tales of the Abyss.
    If anyone cares here's how
    1. save the game before entering Choral Castle
    2. do the .VME to .PS2 conversion
    3. Load .PS2 Memcard in PCSX2 and save after entering castle.
    4. do the .PS2 to .VME conversion and you're done!
Also, I can load CodeBreaker codes in PCSX2, save with the changes, and have them in PS2Classics.

no...wait. still freezes IN Choral Castle, but works outside Choral Castle. I guess I'll have to play past this portion of the game on PCSX2 and then see if works. Update: Yep, that worked. I hope I don't need to go back there.

MyMC can already import PSU files, so just run it and instead of looking for a .MAX file look for your .PSU file.

Ohh, i see. Firstly i need to open one memcarslot (empty from your post) after i import all my .psu and "save" it. Now i decrypt or encrypt my memcard.ps2 to SCEVMC1.VME (renamed).

    correct?

PD: About "your sistem configuration (Badata-system)" from the memcard.ps2, do i erase it??? i have two from pcsx2 emulator and other from my dump in same side. I think this is the config from my ps2.

Yep, update the hashes and then encrypt it. It doesn't matter if other save data is on the memory card.

    Thx a lot friend.

    One only question more.

I have created one slot for ps2 memory card on my ps3 named "angel" (slot0).

    this must be--->>> SCEVMC0.VME to usb /PS3/Export/PS2SD/angel/SCEVMC0.VME????

    Thx a lot, master.

I saw that you don't use the command "ps2classic vd" (decrypt) why?? the update_vmc_hashes.exe do it???
