Id check but if I were you I would'nt try any old power lead cos it will probably blow up, you want a transformer or a voltage converter ( maplins electronics uk ) a voltage converter is already made to go, an a transformer has to be fitted ( soldered in ) but however I seem to recall someone mentioning theres a switch on the inside wich you can flip between 110v an 240v ( but dont quote me on that ). They're relativley the same apart from they get shipped with certain parts missing to be fitted when they arrive at what country they are destined. Id contact your local electronics repair firm an ask them to be sure. Now about the firmware, once you connect your ps3 to the internet an select system update it will update from uk servers and it wont make any difference once youve installed the new update, it will be fine, also sony have fixed the dodgey firmware release with a patch yesterday.....Hope I helped
