Debian aint Intimidated in the least by Sony.

I just had to say that Ubuntu kind of dropped support and does not mention otheros++ as far as ps3 goes. But not Debian, they aint even scared to blatantly tell you to flash a cfw on that thing. Way to go Debian!

Debian is Debian, plain and simple. 21 years or even a little more of trajectory. While Ubuntu has less experience in that area.
Only thing with debian is what @rel1c said.

Matter of tastes. I see no logical reason of Debian being *scared* of Sony.

Cool, I could try it out. The Linux attention has been going down hill of late.is little sad to see this happen. None the less I would still run Linux on my ps3. Gotta sleep now. Chat next time mate.

I think the biggest reason you don't hear of too many people running Linux on PS3's is because anyone who's ran Linux on a PS3 knows it's not really worth it for regular use.

Unless your goal is hacking the PS3 itself, I see zero point in it.
You can't use the hardware to it's full potential.

You only have 256MB of RAM, which, even with a lightweight WM(Fluxbox/Openbox, dwm, i3, ratpoison) or DE(Enlightenment, LXDE, XFCE) you're going to fill the RAM very quickly when you start running applications. Even with swap or zram, it's not quite worth it. Swap's gonna bottleneck the slow hdd and slow everything down. Zram isn't hardly worth it with Just 256MB physical ram, because you'd only devote like 56MB to it, lol..

I played with YDL and Ubuntu/Deb many moons ago before OtherOS was removed, and found that my actual Linux Desktops were far more useful.
OtherOS/Linux on a PS3, it's a neat trick. Back when the CBE was being used for crunching numbers, it served a good purpose.. But in my own personal opinion (nobody get mad ), You're better off using the PS3 as a console.

If your reasoning might be to just try Linux, you'd do yourself a favor to grab a LiveCD or setup a dualboot on your desktop.
