PS3Hax member DzhoPS3HAX, has posted a full tutorial on how to get Sonic Generation (PAL/BLES) working on CFW 3.55. Currently the works fine, however there is a bug when saving the game so that issue needs to be fixed first.

To read the tutorial and download the required files, please read the original thread HERE.

PS3Hax member, Descrambler has released a fix for Singstar - Back to the 80′s (BCES01257), which has been confirmed working on CFW 3.41/3.55 (Singstar requires firmware 3.70).

So what exactly did he do to get this working?

    To quote:

When the system launches a disc, it gets the Title ID - in our case BCES01257 - from the PARAM.SFO of the disc. There are no checks if the eboot will fit for that PARAM.SFO - So it can mismatch without having any issues. But what the system checks is if there are updates installed for the Title ID : root/game/BCES01257/

So i patched the PARAM.SFO to Title ID BCES00494 - That’s Singstar Queen.

And the linked update BCES00494.pkg contains a 3.41 EBOOT.BIN that includes a full Singstar 5.10 player software for the new generation of Singstar discs (With PSMove support and Singstar Guitar).

So the 80′s disc launches and sees the updated player in root/game/BCES00494/ and lauches this instead of the 3.70′s EBOOT on the disc.

Theres also the possibility to depkg the queen update and change all BCES00494 Id’s to BCES01257 and create a fake 80′s update. I decided to patch as less as possible to keep the files original and used this nice trick ;-)

Since the release of Tical’s task for ps3mfw builder we have seen several mfw that have been released with cinavia patched out.  Well now you no longer have to leave your favorite firmware to enjoy that option. Codename: Rebug has released a handy little .pkg to do that for you. Remember this is unnecessary if you are already using any of Rebug’s firmwares.

    Quote from rebug.me

Disable Cinavia Installer for 3.41 and 3.55 CFW/MFW will permanently install the necessary ‘Cinavia Free’ video modules (excluding AVCHD/Blu-ray) to your PS3.

This has been a feature of the REBUG firmware from the start but since there seems to be a lot of interest by users of other CFW/MFW we thought we would make an easy installer for everyone.

Most of you have heard the news of the PS3 slim downgrade on firmware 3.70, helping those buying newer or updated PS3 slim consoles to the scene. At the moment push aside “soft modding” and its time to bring on the good ole’ soldering iron back out.

This new method of downgrading basically requires the soldering of a multi-console-compatible chip known as ProgSkeet (or clone) which you can find or purchase HERE…or you can use Teensy++ board if you still have those from the good dongle days. A solder-less ProgSkeet is in the works, more info here.

Now the original tutorial was released in a very technical form and in Spanish, but we at PS3Hax have got you covered, and are bringing you easy to follow tutorial that a noob can follow on. This tutorial is long, but it is more detailed than complicated, making sure your bases are all covered.

So lets get started, this tutorial is split into multisteps. You should also check out the posts made here, and the posts that will be made in this thread to get assistance. The following tutorial was modified from the original Spanish translation by Dospiedras1973, and the tutorial/images were modified from PS3Hax member Mattr92 tutorial over at his site: RootedSystem and and thanks to the many PS3Hax members that brought us the proper/native translation of the original instructions :) .

Highly advised you read this tutorial fully once, and then again and read the comments in this thread and the other threads linked above to get a GOOD understanding of what your getting yourself into and how the entire process works. Remember, this should be a fun and rewarding experience :)

DISCLAIMER: PS3Hax.net is not responsible for any damage caused to your system. We do not claim credit for this method, we simply have compiled and reorganized the information so it is easier to follow. I  kindly request for other sites to not rip this entire tutorial to their websites, but instead link to this page if you wish to share it on your webpage. This page will be actively updated so please keep checking back to find solutions to encountered/discovered problems.

Since we at PS3HaX like to share our members hard work and encourage our members to continue to do more work. I thought i would share with you a PS3HaX themed MFW made possible by many great members of this forum!!

Quote from BobbyBlunt, the PS3HaX member who brought this MFW together:

I decided to release one of my pups. I haven’t had a chance to play with it but I did install it and had some others test it. It is a collaboration effort of things HaX. Coldboot was from a HaX member that I can’t remember so if you made it claim it and I will give you credit. Annelies theme, patched LV1 and LV2. OtherOS++ support and a lot of other goodies. It is much like Varaques MFW to be honest except with my own tweaks. Thanks Varaques for the tip about SS in LV1 patching to stop the trophy issues. I am unsure about QA flagging (I never bothered with it and gitbrew removed the task for it) It is also 3.66 spoofed.

    Thanks to:
    Annelies for the theme
    Anonymous developers for MFW builder
    Unkown for the coldboot
Gliitch and myself for the coldboot sound
    Varaques for the SS tip
Kamel for being my other guinea pig.
Gitbrew and Glevland for all the new tasks.
Everyone that makes this scene so great.
And of course ps3hax for being the best ps3 site on the net.

Any issues please let me know so I can remedy them

This MFW is created by members of PS3Hax but is not officially endorsed.

There seems to be a problem with this pup and recovery. If you are experiencing an issue download boot_gameos.pkg and reboot.pkg. Run bootgameos.pkg then when returned to the xmb run reboot.pkg. Your recovery issue will be solved. If you wish to install linux you will also need the boot_otheros.pkg, but that will make recovery run as petitboot again. These packages can be found in our download section!!

Many people (the more advanced hackers), already know this but there still is some blurriness on what Linux OS works on 3.55 and what does not.  For those of you who are living under a rock the last few weeks, OtherOS was restored on post 3.15 consoles. OS is basically a program in which will let you turn you PS3 into a computer. It allows you to run some programs that you wouldn’t be able to without OS. Some popular ones are Linux and Ubuntu. Various information, tutorials on installing Linux can be found here.

And as of right now, it seems like the PS3 firmware 3.55 will run most OS out there. As you can see in the chart below, there are still some OS that have NOT been tested for the 3.55 firmware.

    Chart from Gitbrew:

If you want Gitbrew to try an OS that is not listed, let them know. Also, if an OS is not listed and you are certain it works, message them and they will add it to the list.

This CFW was created by Naime a great user of the Spanish forum EOL. This CFW is a 3.55 hybrid that includes some 3.60 files, but its 3.55. It spoof the console so for PSN, games and applications so it shows the console as 3.60.

The CFW author (Naima) said at EOL that the PS3ita’s CFW patches were “dirty patches” that only spoof the psn. Her patch only modifies 3 bytes of the vsh.self, that is only the necessary for the spoof. It also includes the Charles CA27.cer for dev purpose.

The only problem is connecting to GT5 that hangs while connecting, so Naima took down her links until she solves the problem. But still if you want to install it here are the links.

Download and apply it to OFW 3.55

    3.55-60CFW-naima.patch File Size: 39.96MB

Rancid has updated his PS3ita CFW to v3.55. The new version brings mainly PSX game fixes and improved stability

    CHANGELOG
    - Fixed error 80028f17 (All PSX games downloaded from the store now work!)
    - Improved stability

    Installation:

    1. Unless you have not already done so, download and flash the firmware on your PS3 3:55 ORIGINAL SONY: HERE

    2. Download the patch to create the CFW PS3ita (patch.diff): HERE

    3. Now it’s time to patch the firmware 3:55 ORIGINAL SONY.
Is easy to apply, download the following program (CFWPatcher_Installer.exe): HERE

    Install and run it.

Click File on the second button as marked in the image below and select the firmware you downloaded 3:55 ORIGINAL Sony 1 in the guide

Now click the third button on the File and select the folder where you want to save the CFW that will be created

Finally on the fourth button press File, select the patch (patch.diff) and click Execute

    4. Wait for the program to finish creating your beautiful custom firmware.

5.Once the CFW verified that all worked out by comparing the hash:

    -Download the following program: Md5Checker
    - Run the program (you have to extract it from zip), click on the Add button and select the CFW.

Wait a moment, and under “Current MD5″ will be a number, and check segnatevelo is identical to this: c82e3d857775c460a804f08b4cb33940 (you do not take into account whether the letters are case-sensitive)
If the number matches means that your PUP is “healthy”!

6.We go to the PS3, plug the USB device and with the standard method of installing the CFW-PS3ita.

If there was ever a reason to upgrade past Kmeaw CFW, PS3ita CFW is it. The new PS3ita 3.55 CFW automatically gives you full access to PSN without the use of external tools such as F*ck PSN, DNS, Charles etc..

    Features:

The firmware is based on that of Kmeaw, but have added two small patches that allow access to the PSN!

Access is not immediate need any PC to serve as a “broker” and programs like charles fu*kPsn or do not serve
The PS3 is “set” to believe the PSN have the firmware installed 3:56.

I state that the risk remains and I will BAN PS3ita We assume no responsibility!
It’s up to you to decide whether or not to make use of the PSN and to install CFW with the following risks that entails!

Now comes the installation tutorial, below tells you how to create your own CFW PUP, but like before you can also download a pre-made PUP and use that too.

    Installation:

1.Unless you have not already done so, download and flash the firmware on your PS3 3:55 ORIGINAL SONY:Here

2.Download the patch to create the CFW PS3ita (patch.diff):Here

3.Now it’s time to patch the firmware 3:55 ORIGINAL SONY.

Is easy to apply, download the following program (CFWPatcher_Installer.exe):Here

4.Wait for the program to finish creating your beautiful custom firmware.

6.We go to the PS3, plug the USB device and with the standard method of 6b.installing the CFW-PS3ita.

If you say that you have already upgraded to the latest software we need to go into RECOVERY MODE
Here is the procedure for access:
    - Put the PS3 in standby (red LED)
    - Hold down the power button: the system will turn on and turn off at the third beep
    - Once off the PS3, hold down the power button again, you will hear 2 beeps and beeps twice
    - At this point you will be prompted to connect the controller to the USB port
    - Press the PS
    - If you present a menu with the following options:
    • Restart System: Please restart the PlayStation 3.
    • Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings to default
    • Restore File System: Check any system files corrupted or missing.
    • Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS PLAYSTATION 3.
    • Restore PS3 System: reset: erase everything and start again from the factory defaults.
    • System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION 3 firmware with a user-supplied

This is highlighted in red is the option for you, put the USB and install the CFW-PS3ita.

Your done, enjoy. Remember you use PSN at your OWN risk of getting banned.

Whilst many PS3 owners had a problem with Waninkoko’s CFW, which resulted in bricks, some owners escaped fine, Waninkoko tried to find out what the problem was, now he is releasing version 2 of his CFW, here is a quote from Teknoconsolas:

Waninkoko is finalizing what will be their 3.55 CFW V2 and believe it will be released in a very short space of time (today … tomorrow …?). Be compatible with both FAT and Slim consoles and will include a new Payload, which currently can not reveal.

Teknoconsolas also reports that Hermes is working on CFW for 3.41, here is what they say:

For his part, and as we read in EOL, it appears that Hermes is by testing its own version CFW for 3.41, so users who do not wish to migrate still CFW 3.55 could also enjoy their own version of custom firmware.

Rejoice backup lovers out there, we all knew netkas and flukes1 were working on patching lv2 to allow peek and poke, but recent developments made us fear some bad stuff since some ps3 got bricked, it was rumored that the patch to lv2 would be released yesterday, it didn’t, it got released today:

    Quoting from SorrowUK from psx-scene:

Netkas and flukes1 have successfully managed to patch the lv2_kernel in 3.55 to allow peek poke.

    README

Patch to add peek and poke syscalls to PS3 firmware 3.55
    by flukes1 and netkas (irc.efnet.net #ps3test)

    To create the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP:
    1. Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony’s official 3.55 PUP, which is available from their website.
    2. Run this from command line : ” bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff ”
    2. Ensure that the md5sum of the resulting PS3UPDAT.PUP is 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86

Simply install the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP onto your PS3, then install geohot’s jailbreak.

Our PUP can be installed over any firmware version, including 3.55-geohot. If you install over 3.55-geohot, you must reinstall geohot’s jailbreak afterwards.

For developers: peek is syscall 6, poke is syscall 7 (same as PL3 dev payload)

Props to mastag22, lastExile, Killer_In - our testers with balls of steel.

    Enjoy!
    - flukes1, netkas

So guys there you have the thing you all be waiting for, note that backup managers won’t automatically run using this, some backup managers need to have some mods done by their creators in order to work, but this will certainly open a lot of doors even for other tools that also require peek and poke.
Say your thanks to flukes1 and netkas for their amazing job! and to mastag22, lastExille and killer_in for risking their consoles for the scene!

A few days ago we reported of Geohot running homebrew on PS3 firmware 3.55, today he has just released his jailbreak method at his blog. (more…)

Well it’s done renowned iPhone hacker takes the Ps3 a level higher by jailbreaking the system and allowing .pkg files to run on firmware 3.55 yes that’s right homebrew on 3.55 is just around the corner. What Famous Geohot has done is that he has enabled the .pkg feature with a lv2diag.self after he has then signed the (NPRDM) self file and packaged it into a retail.pkg file without a signature. A file is then patched again on the flash so that it ignores the signature. What this does is that it allows homebrew to run from the XMB without the signature.

The video below demonstrates homebrew being ran on PS3 firmware 3.55:

    GEOHOT WEBSITE: www.geohot.com
