We at PS3Hax like to highlight what our community puts out on the scene. PS3Hax member, Varaques, has created his own unique CFW with the MFW tools. There probably quite a few variants/clones out there but be very careful on what PUP you install as you might end up staring at a bricked PS3.

Here are some of the features of Varaques 3.55 CFW:

    • Other+Os Support
    • Q&A Flag Support
    • Custom Boot Logo
    • Custom Theme
    • 3.66 Spoofed
    • LV1 & LV2 Patched
    • Run Unsigned PKG’s & More

You can grab the downloads below, reply back and let Varaques know what you think of it :)

The French Ps3 development team, known as Team PS3-Devs Addict have released a second version of their 3.55 CFW, which is said to have the same stability as Kmeaw, here is a quote from the Change Log:

    Changelog Rev.2:

    • add new lv1 lv2 peek & poke for otheros & more + + new patch
    • New user Icons
    • Package Manager by Rebug
    • Included BDemu v2 & OpenFTP by axtux
    • Add Heavy Rain theme
    • Spoof 3.66
    • add 22GB for otheros, just Need to install petiboot
    • Support for otheros + + (bug no trophy)

Special Thanks: Kakaroto for Ps3MFW, Glevand For patch Rebug, Dudu_clx for testing and user image … & More

    A quote from the source:

Some of you probably noticed that it only supports CFW activation QA Flag as I have clearly said that the new CFW PS3A permitted. Actually after further testing we realized that this patch made inoperative trophies and as a result prevented the games run. We therefore preferred to remove this feature. In short it does not install the pkg from QA by QA if the cons has been previously activated it will remain active.

That’s if you have any ideas or desires for the next version of our CFW, you express

    They also added this update:

    Update:
Follow-up testing by some members and myself, what a CFW product “BlueScreen” on PS3 with a 40GB hard drive. If others encounter similar problem going through the recovery mode and then returned it. Go to the forum to notify me your problem.
But the good news that his CFW supports the downgrade without you change the CFW-otheros Special order downgraded, I would like to thank the entire community of PS3A to follow us every day.

Thanks to CrystalWolf for the tip via PM.

NOTE – THIS IS A 3.55 CFW ONLY – DO NOT UPDATE TO ANYTHING HIGHER THAN 3.55

michaelscz and S4W, two members from PS3ISO, have released (or discovered) fixes for 2 new releases which will now work on CFW 3.41/3.55. Again these are playable because the new updates were used with the old keys so the latest keys are still not known yet…and CFW still survives on luck for new titles ;)

Well know Spanish developer jaicrab has posted information on his blog about a new project he is working on, which seems to be a brand new CFW, this firmware will probably only be 3.55, so don’t get excited about a 3.60/3.65 release, some information on JFW:

    In the works:

    Including:
    - Startup Plugins Manager.
    - Multi tasking apps/Apps running while doing something else.(For Example: FTP while playing)
    - Payload load before entering XMB. Free Cobra Payload…
    . . .

Now whilst all that sounds awesome, this was not the most exciting information on the site, jaicrab posted keys, which i asume are the keys belonging to the Cobra Dongle:

    Greetings to the Cobra TEAM.

An anonymous hacker has contacted us today (not to be confused with Anonymous) releasing a PDF theory which will help hackers learn more about 3.6x firmwares, which in turn can lead to the 3.6x key decryption…hence custom firmware.

Please not before continuing that this a highly technical document, and is a theory at the very least so we are labeling this as a rumor - but this information should hopefully get us in the right step towards 3.6x CFW :)

ATTENTION: 05/23 Anonymous hackers release PDF theory for dual firmware PS3; Could lead to 3.6x+ key decryption/CFW!

    05/23/2011 For Immediate Release:

    The beginning of dual-firmware PS3:

    http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=678

The technique outlined in the .PDF will help people learn more about 3.6x firmwares.
The solution relies on the implementation of a second NOR/NAND Flash.
Some technical limitations have been identified. But time will help us to remove them.

The information in the document is still theoretical for the moment, however please post results from your testing.

We believe knowledge and information wants to be free.
Learn what you can and help contribute to making the PS3 scene a better place.

    Released by No_One.

Its has seemed like a long time since cyberskunk and evilsperm released their awesome full PS3 customisation CFW, called Codename :rebug, in the mean time they have released awesome app’s like Package Manager Installer and Coldboot Installer, along with the various Firmware spoofer’s, today cyberskunk released the updated version of Codename:Rebug, for both 3.41 and 3.55 CFW’s, cyberskunk also explains why it has been delayed, as you will see in the quote below:

    FOREWORD:
First off, let me start by apologising for the delay. Both of my parents have been diagnosed with cancer a couple of months apart (My father has already been in for his operation and the doctors say they have removed it all.. WE HOPE). Saying that, the PUP’s have been ‘almost’ ready for sometime (a couple of months) but over those months I have added to them, so the delay even though for such a sad reason has had a positive result where Rebug is concerned.

Secondly, it is for the above reason that not much work has gone into getting anymore of the debug features working. I will say though on 3.41 using a dongle we have managed to get the ‘check’ feature and the storing and installing of PUP’s from the PS3 HDD working but this is NOT included in this release as it breaks other things and we don’t want the end-user to have to use a dongle (Although dongles still have their use for testing things out). Plus we still need hardware to flash NAND/NOR (I have bricked two of my own PS3 in the last 6months testing things and another YLOD on me so I am down to one and a little reluctant to start messing with it without the hardware to fix it) and we are also trying to raise funds for a TEST console.

Now that that is said, the time has come for the PUP’s to go to good homes..

    REBUG 3.41.2 & REBUG 3.55.1
Both Rebug 3.41.2 and 3.55.1 have all the features you have come to expect from a CFW/MFW plus Package Manager, Rebug Selector and all the debug features of the last Rebug release and none of the bugs.

There is also a new directory in dev_flash called rebug which has another directory in it packages. It is in this directory that you will find Rebug_Selector_1.2.pkg and BDEMU.pkg (3.55) or Hermes_V4C_Rebugged.pkg (3.41). These can be installed using the PS3 HDD option in Package Manager.

    INSTALL:
Rebug 3.41.2 and 3.55.1 can be installed over the same version OFW/CFW/MFW on any model PS3 through the XMB or Recovery Mode and Rebug 3.41.2 can be installed in Service Mode if needed to downgrade OFW 3.50.

    UNINSTALL:
Rebug 3.41.2 and 3.55.1 can be uninstalled with the same version OFW/CFW/MFW on any model PS3 through the XMB or Recovery Mode.

    PACKAGE MANAGER

Package Manager is a replacement for the standard ★ Install Package Files option under Game in the XMB. It allows for the install and deletion of .pkg files from ‘dev_hdd0/packages’, ‘dev_usb/packages’ and the standard ‘★ Install Package Files’ locations. In addition to this, your downloaded PSN content will appear under this menu instead of cluttering your ‘Game’ menu with uninstalled content.

    USAGE:
Navigate to Game in your XMB and click on ★ Package Manager (It will be where ‘★ Install Package Files’ usually is). You will find three options.

    ★ PlayStation®Network Content
    Manage your downloaded PlayStation®Network Content.

    ★ Install Package Files
INSTALL package files from Storage Devices and your PS3.

    PS3™ Hard Disk – (dev_hdd0/packages)
    Package Folder – (dev_usb/packages)
Standard Package Location – (Standard ★ Install Package Files locations)

NOTE: The Install All Packages is only available by pressing the TRIANGLE button when the Standard Package Location option is highlighted because the PS3 will only install ALL packages from the root of a storage device as of the moment.

    ★ Delete Package Files
DELETE package files from Storage Devices and your PS3.

    PS3™ Hard Disk – (dev_hdd0/packages)
    Package Folder – (dev_usb/packages)
Standard Package Location – (Standard ★ Install Package Files locations)

    DELETING FILES:
1: Highlight the file you would like to delete and press TRIANGLE. The sidebar should appear.
2: Press CROSS on either Unlink or Unlink(Folder) (Both do the same thing for now).

    REBUG SELECTOR
Included – Install using PS3 HDD option in Package Manager.

Rebug Selector is a tool for switching XMB and menus. When you run the tool you will see displayed what MODE, XMB and DEBUG MENU you are using. You will also see that AUTO REBOOT is set to OFF – FAST MENU SWITCHING ACTIVE, which means when you choose an option from DEBUG MENU SELECT the PS3 will exit back to the XMB automaticly speeding up the menu switching process. As soon as you choose an option from either MODE SELECT or XMB SELECT the AUTO REBOOT will set to ON – SYSTEM WILL REBOOT ON EXIT and the user must manually exit the tool using the ‘ingame XMB’ once they are satisfied with their selections. This is so the vsh.self changes can take effect.

    MODE SELECT:
Switches between NORMAL and REBUG mode

    NORMAL MODE:
NORMAL mode is the default mode after installing Rebug. It uses the DEBUG XMB and allows switching between the two different ★Debug Settings menus.

NOTE: NORMAL mode MUST be set if you wish to reinstall official firmware through the XMB.

    REBUG MODE:
REBUG mode sets the PS3 to the latest available version spoof (updatable in the future) and allows swapping between RETAIL and DEBUG XMB in addition to switching between the two different ★Debug Settings menus.

Press L1+CROSS to set: [NORMAL MODE]
Press L1+CIRCLE to set: [REBUG MODE]

    XMB SELECT:
This option only works in REBUG mode and lets you select either the RETAIL or DEBUG XMB.

Press R1+CROSS to use: [RETAIL XMB]
Press R1+CIRCLE to use: [DEBUG XMB]

    DEBUG MENU SELECT:
Gives you the choice of the ★Debug Settings menu from retail (CEX) or debug (DEX) firmware.

Press R2+CROSS to use: [DEBUG SETTINGS: MENU 1] (CEX)
Press R2+CIRCLE to use: [DEBUG SETTINGS: MENU 2] (DEX)

    CREATE PACKAGE FOLDER ON PS3:
For use with Package Manager. This option will exit automaticly if AUTO REBOOT is set to off.

    Press SELECT to create [dev_hdd0/packages]

NOTE: No matter what XMB or DEBUG MENU you are using, the debug options you have running will remain active.

EXTRA INFO: Rebug Selector DOES NOT copy any files to dev_flash when performing it’s tasks, instead it renames (Much safer and much much faster). All the files are already installed on dev_flash and the tool has more than a dozen checks to make sure nothing goes wrong, including a check to see if it is being used on Rebug firmware. Trying to run Rebug Selector on firmware other than Rebug will cause the tool to auto exit before the user gets to make a choice or see anything on the screen at all for that matter.

There are lots of things for you to experiment with and discover so have some fun and don’t take things too seriously. It is only a PS3.

    Enjoy.. Cyberskunk.

P.S. Look forward to our next release with ‘Linux Dualboot’.

Codename: REBUG would like to thank:
Geohot, fail0verflow and graf_chokolo (Our thoughts are with you guys)

    also

    Extra thanks to:
jjolano – Helping with the original Rebug Selector code.
Hermes – Compiling the changes we made to his payload for us.

    Our BIGGEST thanks:
Mr Anonymous – Helping with the final Rebug Selector but more so without him both ‘Codename: REBUG’ and ‘ps3mfw’ might still be trying to sign files properly. You are a legend for fixing the signing tool for us.

Kmeaw will be bringing us another release soon that should comes in the form of CFW. NOT intended for 3.60 CFW, before you ask. With the recent news of Grafs latest dual booting Linux releases, a newb proof CFW package is coming in a very near future.

    To quote:

I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed
when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on user’s
request via menu or ssh). It’s not hard to make it. But recently I
read graf’s announcment that he is going to accomplish the same task.
So I don’t know, if such CFW from me would get any demand.

Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous
hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. I’m going to merge them into
my code and release the next version.

If you have any ideas about what would you like to have, please tell

    me.

There you have it, got suggestions for the next CFW (that is not related to 3.60 support)? Maybe integration of the new “cheating” dongles? Post it here and let your opinion be heard.

This has been spreading fire quickly over various forums so we thought it would be appropriate to bring it to attention here before it gets out of hand. A Youtube user Winocm claims to have jailbroken PS3 firmware 3.60 with a proof of concept video. The video that has been causing the stir can be seen below:

Looks pretty “clean” so far, but only time will tell if this is true or not.

In addition news, well known hacker who brought your F*ck PSN, Drizzt, has Tweeted an IRC log of Mathieulh claiming to have code running on PS3 FW 3.60 making the video above raise some eyebrows.

[03:15] while you are insulting me like morons, I already have code running on 3.60, and I am laughing, and guess what ? I am happy I stopped sharing, you can hate me for it, I don’t care.

We are marking this as a rumor until something is released (it could very well just be a simple firmware spoof!)but till then let us know if you think this is real or fake.

Many of you might have suffred a bricked console from the first Waninkoko CFW a while ago. Well a fix has been now posted and you can read it below: (more…)

  • Posted by GregoryRasputin , on 29/01/2011 , @ 09:25am

Waninkoko has released version two of his custom firmware, here is a translated quote from the source:

This CFW is installed directly into the NAND has been tested in different models of console (FAT and Slim, reported in the main post) and without any brickeo or similar problem.

The testers have reported a high stability in the CFW and the same compatibility with games that could be obtained with different dongles.

The main core of the payload is based on Hermes, also has some features of PL3 and supplementary code and improved by Waninkoko.

Attempted to create an application that enable / disable the payload, so that after leaving a manager backup Blu-ray was functional. After some testing has not been able to be operational, it would be desirable for the various backups managers were in charge of implementing such functionality or may be added in a later CFW.

A quote from the Read Me:

    DESCRIPTION:
This custom firmware for the PS3 increases the system capabilities of your console
to allow installation and execution of homebrew applications.

This Custom Firmware can also allow the loading of legal copies (backups) using these new functions.

We do not support or support the use of illegal copies.

We are not responsible for any damage caused by use of the Custom Firmware.

    INSTALLATION:
    1. Download the firmware 3.55 for PS3 (PS3UPDAT.PUP file).
    2. PS3UPDAT.PUP file patched using the patch included in this package using the application “bsdiff (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff).
    3. PUP file installs the patch as normal firmware upgrade.
(If you’re in the version 3.55 you need to install from the recovery mode.)

    MODELS TESTED:
    - PS3 40GB FAT (CECHG04)
    - PS3 60GB FAT (CECHC04)

    Note:
Waninkoko im sure has gone to great lengths to ensure the same doesn’t happen, with this CFW that happened on his v1 release, even so i urge all PS3HaX members to be extra carefull and follow the instructions as they are posted.

Well excitement was created when waninkoko announced custom firmware for the ps3 with backup support and PSN(online gaming) it seems that he has posted what we would be expecting with V2 of his CFW for 3.55

New payload revolving around hermes and PL3
CFW patches which would allow for easy .pkg installation
Peek/ poke function used via flukes1 and kmeaw tools

To Quote a rough translation via google

    Waninkoko V2: New details

It’s a relatively quiet day for us on the scene, but here is something to cheer with a little info on the new version of Waninkoko CFW V2. The previous version of Waninkoko had created an uproar in the community, by the hundreds of PS3 bricks following the installation of the CFW. But do not worry about the V2 because it would have found the reasons for the bricks.

Here are some details on the CFW waninkoko V2:

    - A new payload for his CFW, based on the payload Hermes + on some functions of the payload PL3
-However, the payload, according Waninkoko not work on CFW Kmeaw.
The CFW-patches will be provided. pkg for easy installation
The CFW-use function Peek / Poke with some additional tools like the tools and CFW kmeaw Flukes1

Many people (who have passed the test of the brick) praised the first version, with the launch of backups without too many problems. Hopefully the new version of CFW waninkoko be a more stable version.

As if it wasn’t easy enough, there are 2 new CFW GUI makers on the web to help make your life a bit easier for creating your own patched PUPs for your CFW.

Coming from GX-Mods here is a simple CFW/OFW maker:

    Features :

    - Download the official 3.55 fw
    - Creating different custom firmwares
    - Verification (after downloading and creation) of the MD5sum

    New / fixed:

    - Addition of bspatch.exe that prevented the integration of patches

. NET Framework Version 4 is required.

    [DOWNLOAD GX-MOD CFW Maker]

And here is another one from the Trading-Post , its a bit lighter in size and requirements than the GX-Mods one but whatever suits your style:

    Simply download to anywhere.
    Extract it – Install it
Download 3.55ofw put it in where ever – That’s if you don’t already have this file.
Download Patched PS3UPDAT.PUP put it in where ever – That’s if you don’t already have this file.

    Execute CFWPatcher.exe

    1. Select bspatch Folder
    2. Select 3.55 OFW Folder
    3. Select Where to place the Modified 3.55 FW
    4. Select The Patched 3.55 Folder – If not found Massege pops up
    5. Select your Patch PUP File – CFW_v3.55.PUP / PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff

    Click Execute

    wait till it’s done.

Open the New Folder and Execute PS3UPDAT.md5 / CFW_v3.55.md5 To check file.

Earlier today, we reported here that hermres was planning to release a CFW for 3.41 consoles, he has just done this, here is a quote from the read me: (more…)

    Update 3:

Fix for bricked consoles can be found HERE.

**Please check below to updates to this story and solutions on bricking information**

As we commented earlier there was a rumour about Waninkoko releasing his CFW, well it’s not longer a rumour. The famous wii spanish hacker has published his own 3.55 CFW.

What makes this CFW special is that he found the way to enable peek and poke, which means that running backups and the use of backup managers is as easy as it was with a dongle in 3.41

This custom firmware has been made with his own tools, according to him he has tested and is working fine.

    Download:http://twitter.com/#!/hackinblack

A word Of Warning, several users have reported of bricks (ON FAT AND SLIM MODELS) , if you have GeoHots CFW, reinstall OFW via recovery, this may alleviate any problems. But there are reports that it works on BOTH models so proceed at your own risk.

    • IMPORTANT: Check the hash of the created PUP file before flashing.
    • I recommend updating first to OFW 3.55, then to CFW 3.55. I’m sorry for all the consoles that have dies, this was unexpected
    • At least some people report that it works! That’s good news.
    • Working in an alternative way, with no brick riskNo ETA.

    UPDATE 2

More updates, according to reports and posts made by our members it seems that if your PS3 has the 256MB NAND (mainly the old 60gb/20gb PS3 models) this CFW will NOT work, and it will brick your PS3.

haleskinn has posted the correct models with the NANDs, so please CHECK YOUR PS3 model before trying to install this CFW. So if your PS3 models is in pink do not install this CFW.

    • FAT NAND SIZE
      • CECHA = 256MB
      • CECHB = 256MB
      • CECHC = 256MB
      • CECHE = 256MB

      • CECHP = 16MB
      • CECHQ = 16MB
    • SLIM NAND SIZE
      • CECH-20..A = 16MB
      • CECH-20..B = 16MB
      • CECH-21..A = 16MB
      • CECH-21..B = 16MB
      • CECH-250.A = 16MB
      • CECH-250.B = 16MB
      • CECH-250.A = 16MB

      • CECH-251.A = 16MB
      • CECH-251.B = 16MB

This is also a quick tutorial posted by ThaKilla to get backup manager + Waninkoko CFW – remeber that you can’t install the BM on Waninkoko so you have to install the SIGNED version (download here) with Geohots version.

How to install BACKUP MANAGER + Waninkoko CFW:

    - Update to OFW 3.55
    - Install GeoHot Jailbreak
    - Install newest multiMAN
    - Update to OFW 3.55
    - Update to CFW

Ok after the stupid mess up with this thread, i thought i would set the record straight, it does indeed appear that Waninkoko is due to release a CFW, today Monday 17th of January at 12:00 (GMT+1), here is a quote from Mojo a member at PSX Scene and a possible tester:

EOL, and other spanish webs. It’s a CFW, Multiman works perfectly(or so it says waninkoko). He will release it tomorrow, at 12:00 (GMT+1), because he has to do certain things first.

Im deeply sorry for everyone who wanted the CFW right now. Its no that the CFW its not working, actually it works pretty good, its more of a logistic problem, we thought launching it tomorrow so the release includes a proper readme.txt and a XML of FW License like its supposed to be, and as a matter of fact some of us got to work, and others have school. I know a lot of you will not understand but it is like that and Im sorry for everyone that could feel bad about this news and about the circumstance but thats the path we’ve taken.

So anyone who need to take a break do it now because tomorrow the Waninkoko CFW will be released. (12:00pm Spain Time, aprox. 5:00am. GMT-6)

Rejoice backup lovers out there, we all knew netkas and flukes1 were working on patching lv2 to allow peek and poke, but recent developments made us fear some bad stuff since some ps3 got bricked, it was rumored that the patch to lv2 would be released yesterday, it didn’t, it got released today:

    Quoting from SorrowUK from psx-scene:

Netkas and flukes1 have successfully managed to patch the lv2_kernel in 3.55 to allow peek poke.

    README

Patch to add peek and poke syscalls to PS3 firmware 3.55
    by flukes1 and netkas (irc.efnet.net #ps3test)

    To create the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP:
    1. Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony’s official 3.55 PUP, which is available from their website.
    2. Run this from command line : ” bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff ”
    2. Ensure that the md5sum of the resulting PS3UPDAT.PUP is 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86

Simply install the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP onto your PS3, then install geohot’s jailbreak.

Our PUP can be installed over any firmware version, including 3.55-geohot. If you install over 3.55-geohot, you must reinstall geohot’s jailbreak afterwards.

For developers: peek is syscall 6, poke is syscall 7 (same as PL3 dev payload)

Props to mastag22, lastExile, Killer_In – our testers with balls of steel.

    Enjoy!
    - flukes1, netkas

So guys there you have the thing you all be waiting for, note that backup managers won’t automatically run using this, some backup managers need to have some mods done by their creators in order to work, but this will certainly open a lot of doors even for other tools that also require peek and poke.
Say your thanks to flukes1 and netkas for their amazing job! and to mastag22, lastExille and killer_in for risking their consoles for the scene!

Spanish hacker Evilnat has been hard at work on his own version of a PS3 CFW with backup support in the very near future. The project is still in beta and is being updated, so try out his latest version at your own risk (have not confirmed if working, but reading the comments at source it seems clean).

    To quote:

    CFW Evilnat BETA

Good fellow, you know that I decided to make a CFW and investigate, since the programming along with the PS3 is a pretty fun hobby.

“This software is shared with no warranty. Neither I, nor members of PS3SOS liable for any damages to your console. Use with caution.”

I have access to the archives of the kernel of the PUP, as I can I start to create the Backup Loader.

Took several days creating this CFW as many already know, only with the disadvantage that do not have Kakarot tool as it gives me errors everywhere, so I’m doing everything manually, and it takes more logically.

I know many will think that I’m doing a CFW own seeing what’s online and who are very advanced, I know I could be stupid, but the reason is very easy, if not the major draw, if I get SI Exposing LO.

Comment I did not know for sure if it would get, but I always try. For now its beginnings are already made, the CFW 3.41-Evilnat

The firmware that you create and modify debug options enabled take, I have all minimum. At the moment these are the ones that are built:

    Install Packages Files
    app_home/PS3_GAME/
Title Store Preview (InGame) (Added on 09/07/2011)
Title Preview Store (Store) (Added on 09/07/2011)

I wanted to share with you CFW early yet to give me ideas and comments and stuff.

For now equals that of KaKaRoToKS, as this phase Beta and very green for now installed demos from Install Package Files and run like yours, has taken me days to finish because I have little free time.

I have only made the version 3.41 , also the hare of 3.55 and 3.15 if it can be (for those who are still in that version).

Tomorrow I will put the download link if you want to leaf through and tinker with, I will add new features like the Debug Options in Settings.

Right now I leave it installed to mess with homebrew signed and improve your firmware, and also edit the Game OS.

I repeat: DO NOT DOWNLOAD IF YOU GET HOMEBREW OR BACKUPS.

If anyone wants to work and know programming, you can contact me if you want. Thanks to all who have supported me to keep trying.

Remember: STILL CAN NOT LOAD OR BACKUPS WITH ANY HOMEBREW FIRMWARE OR MINE, OR ANYONE OR Kakarot, PATIENCE.
