Seemed our chinese E3 friends took the news of many bricks (even unrecoverable with their brickguide by soldering a Tristate to SBE wire) with E3 seriously and released a dump checker tool:

E3 Nor dump checker V1.0 released. It help you check if the backup bios is corret or wrong. We suggest user check the backup bios first before downgrade, it will lower the risk of brick !

That seemed a bit too optimistic, even when it doesn’t claim 100% validity, so I decided to test that program to a bricktest!

Inserted where several known faults in specific regions, that would be invalid for any flash (e.g. resulting in a RLOD or YLOD brick - even unrecoverable because also perconsolespecific data was overwritten!).

The results where posted on the wiki by me :

    Quick bulletproof test

    does not test:

    • bootldr (corrupted binary not detected)
    • metldr (corrupted binary not detected)
    • bootldr size (both under- and oversize not detected)
    • metldr size (both under- and oversize not detected)
    • cISD (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • cCSD (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • trvk_prg0 (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • trvk_prg1 (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • trvk_pkg0 (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • trvk_pkg1 (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • eEID (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • cvtrm (didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • CELL_EXTNOR_AREA (didn’t catch brick-byte error)

    partly test:

    • ROS0 (but didn’t catch brick-byte error)
    • ROS1 (but didn’t catch brick-byte error)

    does test:

    • headerprefix (“00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00″)
    • header (“00 00 00 00 AC 0F FF E0 00 00 00 00 AD DE EF BE”)
    • header (“FI.I”)
    • headersuffix “(FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF”)
    • filetable (“saceru_eoldare..” etc.)

Conclusion: USELESS, brickdumps will still show as ‘valid’.

Recommendation: use Flowrebuilder instead and common sense like mentioned on Hardware flashing page.

If you like to give this checker a try, be adviced, it crashed about 50 times when I was testing (about every 2 checks) - not sure if it was my PC only.

Most of you should already know what the E3 flasher is, for those of you who have been living in a cave and don’t know what it is, read this thread.

For those of you thinking of buying it, but unsure of how easy/hard it is to install Chris from ChrisTechTV has released a video tutorial on how to install the E3 Flasher.

At the moment the E3 flasher only supports flashing NOR consoles, so here is a compatibility list:

    Finally the Video Tutorial:

E3DIY contacted us today confirming that E3 Flasher works just fine with the newest PS3 FW update. They also give a warning on while using their flasher and downgrading, do NOT update/install 3.55 OWF or CFW.

    To quote:

E3 FLASHER LIMITED downgrade 3.73 to 3.55 successful , the way is same as before, no changes !
and also we upload a good working manager, you can check official web to download .

And also please note : after downgrade to 3.55, don’t install any other 3.55CFW or 3.55OFW, otherwise PS3 will get brick just install manager to play HDD game.

if you want play PSN, just upgrade to 3.73 with normal upgrade way (network or USB device).

Updates to story follow below. So more word from Team E3DIY for the anticipated E3 flasher. They have contacted PS3Hax and have confirmed that they will begin shipping units on the 13th. They also have made available the SLIM install PDF guide which you can download here. More information at their website here.

The biggest change you guys should be aware of that the versions shipping will not feature dual-booting. This is mainly due to the need of manually soldering additional wires. They told us to expect another version with the dual booting ability soon.

    To quote:

E3 flasher LIMITED version start to ship on 13th. We are sorry for the delay because CLIP component is very low rate .
We had to ship small quantity like 100-200pcs every day recently , we are working hard to improve those problem.

Now you can get new slim installation manual with clip from official web.

E3 flasher limited version fixed on NOR FLASH FAT console not so good, you can know some from official web ,
sure all NOR FLASH console is NO SOLDER include SLIM AND NOR FLASH FAT .

We are regret that we had to cancel some function like dual boot from E3 FLASHER LIMITED version
becuase NO solder function added(CLIP). We will develop a new flasher to add those function with few wire solder.

We take some picture for E3 FLASHER LIMITED production, you can know production status official web .

    UPDATE 1:

Got this email below from Team E3DIY:

We think lots of user mis-understand us, here is some clarification.
1: E3 FLASHER LIMITED still provide 11 accessory, include esata station.
2: we design e3 flasher on solder way at first, this way can get dual boot well. But later we change hardware and software design because of adding clip. so finally it’s difficult to get dual boot function on e3 flasher clip version.
3: You still can get 3.72 and 3.55 switch with 2 HDD, it need more steps than dual boot, maybe we can call it half dual boot. This way no need any solder. We will release this half dual boot way in few days, you just upgrade e3 flasher limited and get it work.
4: We are working hard to allow e3 flasher limited vesion works really dual boot, but we can’t promise now because lots of changes.
5: We upload all neccessory software and manual, you can go here to download and enjoy one key downgrade.
6: New e3 flasher should come out in few month with more fantastic function !

Well its almost here, the most exciting time in a gamers year and what make it all the more exciting, is when a new piece of hardware is showcased.

During E3 this year, Sony will be showcasing their recently announced Next Generation Portable(NGP), which has recently been rumoured to be called PS Vita, if you wish you can vote on weather you like the name or not here NGP > PS Vita ?.

Here are the specifications of the NGP, note that some of these on the final E3 product, may have changed since the console first revealed:

    ARM® Cortex™-A9 core (4 core)

    200 MHz SGX543MP4+
    133 MPolygon/s
    4 GPixel/s fill rate

512MB, rumoured to have been halved already.

16GB internal storage, rumoured to have been removed.

NVG Card - a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.
NVG game cards will be available in 2 GB and 4 GB sizes.

    5-inch OLED capacitive touch screen.
    24-bit colour.
    960 × 544 pixels @ 220 ppi.

    Touch screen.
    Rear touch pad.
    Six-axis motion sensing.
    Three-axis electronic compass.
    12 × Buttons
(Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square, L, R, Start, Select, Home, Volume ±, Power).
    2 × Analog sticks.

    Front camera.
    Rear camera.
Both cameras feature face detection, head detection, and head tracking capabilities.

    IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
    Bluetooth 2.1+EDR

As you will notice from the above specs, the NGP will have a new game medium, which is dubbed an NVG Card, so UMD is gone, which unfortunately means for all of you with UMD’s, wont be able to play them on the NGP, that is not the only thing that is gone, the famed XMB is gone and has been replaced with LiveArea, here is a quote about it from one of the sources:

Its almost that time again, the most exciting time in a gamers year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo(E3), which is being held between the 7th and 9th of June, some of you might be new to gaming and don’t really know what E3 is all about, here is a quote from the official E3 website.

E3 Expo is the world’s premier trade show for computer and video games and related products. The show is owned by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies, publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the Internet. For more information, please visit www.E3Expo.com or www.theESA.com.

There will be many companies there, but the three big contenders are Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, below i will cover what each of these three may bring to the Expo going by various rumours, these are in no way official.

Sony has a new handheld games console in the works, its project name is Next Gen Project or NGP, it is reported to have a Quad Core Processor as well as many other amazing features, today a gaming website(Games Pundit) stated that an unknown source, gave them information in regards to the official name of the new handheld machine, they revealed that name would be PS Vita, you can read more about it and vote here.

This E3 will be a little over six years since the PS3 was first showcased and although the first demo console was amazing, the final model released a year later didnt have all that Sony had originally promised, regardless, it was still an amazing machine.
Sony vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato has already confirmed that there is a PS4 in development, so will this year see a demo machine of the PS4 on display ?
Read more about that article here, regardless of what is and isn’t released, rumours are going to be wild spread and some of it unfortunately will be misleading, or unfortunately could be true in the case of the NGP, which has been reportedly downgraded spec wise from the original machine mentioned by Sony, this is a massive trait with Sony, promise big, then deliver less:

Original NGP Specs Reported By Sony:

Not mentioned in the image above is the RAM, which was reported to be 512MB, according to a French gaming website, that amount has been halved to 256MB, also the on board 16MB of storage space has also been removed, you can read the original article from the French website here or a Google translated version here.

My personal opinion on the Xbox 360 is that they should have used HD-DVD’s as a gaming medium, this would have meant games would only have needed one disc instead of four in some cases, HD-DVD as a medium on a whole would also have survived and we would have seen a more exciting battle between HD-DVD and Blu Ray.

Rumours have it that we may see a new console, other rumours suggest 3D for the 360.

Regardless of what a lot of 360 and PS3 fanboys say about the Wii, there is no denying that it was by far the most popular, the most entertaining and most sold console of this current generation, Nintendo has stated that they will release a successor to the Wii, which the no doubt will be showcased at E3, the console which is dubbed Project Cafe, will be far superior to the PS3 and Xbox 360, reports also suggest that it will have a new type of control pad, which will house a touch screen panel, the console is also said to be backward compatible with the Wii, though it seems that the machine wont have 3D.

Nintendo will also probably speak about the N3DS.

Amongst all the rumours and what we think and hope will be released, there is no doubt that this years E3 will be very exciting, i myself am looking forward to MS and Nintendo’s show’s and new footage for the new Elder Scrolls game, i think i will leave it there and let you make your own minds up, be sure to mention what you think may appear at this years E3 :)

You can download the E3 Floor Plan here, i created a PDF and marked the important stalls, so enjoy and you can be sure of plenty of E3 coverage on this forum when it happens.

Microsofts 2010 E3 presentation has come and gone, and was it awesome.

The first great game was announced by Hideo Kojima and introduced by Shiganobu Matsayama, it is called, Metal Gear Solid Rising and stars Raiden, the graphics were stunning and beautiful, the game seems to take a “Zan datsu” theme, which means cut everything and thats what Raiden did in the trailer, he sliced and diced a van and several enemies.

A few other games were also demoed, which are, Gears Of Wars 3, which has a new beast mode, Fable 3, Codename Kingdoms and Halo Reach.

Then it went on to the Kinect presentation, which was quite astounding, here is a list of things you can do:
Control your console with movement and voice commands.
Video chat with your Xbox Live friends and MSN friends, you can also watch movies with them.
The camera tracks your movement automatically.
Watch movies, only using your voice and hands.

The presentation went on to talk about the games, here is a list of some of the games:
Kinectimals, a game where you can interact with one of 48 animals and participate in 90 activities.
Kinect sports, which includes Football, Bowling and Boxing amongst other sports related games.
Kinect Joy Ride, a racing game.
Kinect Adventures, a a game where you use your whole body and play through 20 adventures.

Ubisoft revealed a game called Your Shape Fitness Evolved, and Harmonix revealed a dance game called Dance Central, which has
    600 moves and 90 routines.
Lucas Arts also revealed that they are working on a Kinect based game.
The last Kinect game that was showcased was Forza Motor Sport.

Kinect will go on sale this November the 4th in North America and will have 15 games at launch.

The most exciting part was the end, where Microsoft revealed a smaller redesigned Xbox 360 console, it is black, sexy, it will have a 250GB HDD, with built in Wireless N and will sell for the great price of $299, better still, it goes on sale today.

Thats the end of my Microsoft report, hope you enjoyed reading.

According to Xbox-Scene, it seems some one messed up and put out advertisements for what seems to be a new 360 SKU,which one would assume is the rumoured slim version, it is reported to have a 250GB HDD, built in WiFi and will be compatible with Kinect(Project Natal), which i reported about here.

With Microsofts E3 presentation, in a few hours it seems strange that they couldn’t hold of until then, to reveal the final details of their motion device for Xbox 360 and PC, which was previously known as Project Natal.

    BBC’s News Website Reports:

Microsoft has revealed final details of its Xbox 360 hands-free motion control system, which it has rebranded Kinect.

The device, which was originally codenamed Project Natal, was showcased ahead of the opening of the E3 games expo, which starts on 15 June in LA.

Microsoft has said Kinect will hit shelves before the end of the year.

It will face competition from Sony’s PlayStation Move controller and Nintendo’s upgraded WiiMotion Plus.
