Newest tweet from KaKaRoToKS says that his current WIP jailbreak works with PS3 FW 4.0. There is no current release date, or time frame for the JB release.

KaKaRoTo has just recently updated his blog, with this message:

I tested the jailbreak on the latest firmware 4.0 since it was released and I can confirm that it still works. Mathieulh also confirmed that the NPDRM algo that he has still allows applications to run on 4.0, although he still doesn’t want to share that with us/me at the moment.
Mathieulh is still thinking about whether or not to share it, so I’m hopeful he’ll help us move forward with the release.

He has however received so many hate messages and so many flaming that he is completely disgusted with the scene and the way it treated him. He is so disgusted that he does not want to share or help anymore. He thinks that all those haters do not deserve to be given something that they are so ungrateful for, and I perfectly understand his position. Receiving all that hate towards me a while back also made me depressed to the point I stopped looking at the PS3 entirely.

Next time you want to insult a dev, thinking it’s “fun” or that he deserved it, think about it some more, you are poisoning the scene without even realizing it. We are all doing this for fun, the only reward we get is people’s gratitude, and all you do is hate and disrespect us, so why continue to do what we do?

For those who hate and insult : Mathieulh may not be acting the way you want him to, you may think he’s a jerk or hate him for teasing without releasing, but the simple fact remains that he has done more to the scene that you did, so you should just shut up and show him respect. When you have your little ‘hate fun’, you are actually contributing to the scene, but in the wrong way, you are killing it by killing the developer’s motivation.

For now, Mathieulh doesn’t want to share his work with me, and I’m not mad or disappointed at all at him, I am mad and disgusted at those who made him make that decision. So please, if you are just as mad as I am, do NOT make this an opportunity to hate even more on Mathieulh for not sharing, make this an opportunity to show gratitude where it’s due and educate those who are ungrateful on what their role is/was in this scene.

KaKaRoToKS has just confirmed on Twitter that his jailbreak has been leaked by someone in his circle.

I’m sure loads of people wanted this to be leaked, but not so sure if its a good thing. He said its in a very premature stage so it might not even be able to use. It’ll just give people ways to do it themselves and obviously as he states, Sony can now take preventative measures.

Now lets clarify a few points. This isn’t “breaking” news or a “big-incoming leak“, just pointless scene drama that everyone is jumping the gun on and spreading misinformation. KaKaRoToKS claims the leak was “incomplete”, so whoever decided to leak it know that it pretty much ruined his work.

This is a pretty contained/internal leak, most of you won’t find it.

And remember, we posted about this work a few days ago. THIS WILL NOT ALLOW THE BOOTING OF BACKUP MANAGERS, so for you “pirates” out there this was useless to you in the first place.

So there you have it, the reason this was front paged was to stop the endless spam of new threads/PMs/emails we were getting related to the “leak”. We are setting the facts straight, and please keep the information related to this topic all here (merging threads/posts).

Ok, so I dug and figured out what happened… GOOD NEWS! There was no leak! Although you never really know, but I’m more and more convinced that it wasn’t a leak.
So first of all, thank you to all who gave their support and the twitter flood was extreme. I am really happy to see that many concerned users in the scene, with a very few exceptions, I noticed that most people were disgusted and unhappy with the leak, someone summed it up pretty nicely “While I should be happy that it’s leaked, I’m not, I’m disgusted, I don’t even want to use it now”. So thank you, with your support, you have given me joy and the confidence that this scene has a lot more voices than the few angry haters.

That being said, here’s an explanation of what happened.
Someone came to talk to me on IRC asking “Is this how you did ? ” and he gave some explanation.. which was true. At that point, it could be either coincidence or a leak, but what made me believe in a leak is that he said something (which I can’t really tell what it is) that was very unique and special and weird and you wouldn’t expect it (even if you found the same ‘exploit’), and that little detail was specific to my jailbreak. Unfortunately, the guy went offline before I could reply to him, so all I could see was that it was a leak.

After going around, only 6 people actually knew of the jailbreak’s method, and I spoke to all of them and I trust them all and I’m sure none of them spoke about it with anyone. It turns out, the person who approached me asking “is this how you did : …. ” had not received any information from anyone. When I finally caught him online and asked him where he got that information, I realized that it was simply someone who was clever enough to figure it out.
As for that one detail that was quite unique to my jailbreak, it turns out it was miscommunication.. the guy meant something completely different from what I understood, and yes, I guess I was just being paranoid and I interpreted it in one way. But when he explained what he meant by it, it made sense… now that I read his message again, I see exactly what he meant, but since I couldn’t understand it first, the only way I could interpret it was to understand it as being that detail specific to my method. Life is hard when one word/sentence can be interpreted in multiple valid ways…
So anyways, that’s how it is, it looks like nothing was leaked, so everyone’s happy now. But this was a wake up call actually, it just reinforced that I should be even more cautious and avoid talking about it to anyone until it’s ready.

On that note, progress was made even though I’m on vacation, and it’s going well, I won’t say anything else

After taking some time off from the PS3 scene, KaKaRoToKS has released some developer tools and engine ports. Basically these tools will help improve homebrew made by our fellow developers.

We all know KaKaRoToKS, the first person to come out with a 3.55 CFW.  Well he has added another game to the Humble Homebrew collection, Scogger HD, a game by Scognito.  Scognito is also the one who ported this game to the ps3.  You can grab the download from the Humblehomebrew website below and if you haven’t donated or signed yet, be sure to do so.  As always a big thank you goes out to KaKaRoToKS for adding this to the collection and Scognito for his hardwork on this great game.

KaKaRoToKs has sure been busy these last few days. Today he posted on his Twitter that he and Xtse have managed to downgrade PS3 FW 3.55 to PS3 FW 3.41. He does say he is not ready to release the method just yet due to the risk of bricking PS3 consoles, but once perfected he promises to release it soon

The developer KaKaRoToKS has released the pup packer codes. This basically allows you to create PUP files, aka CUSTOM FIRMWARE very, very soon

Anyone can now recreate their own official PS3 firmware PUP files!

JasonMckey has updated the PL3 payload to fix the 80010019, the error that requires you to update your PS3 to 3.42 in order to play (games such as Medal of Honor). Yes this means now 3.42 required games work without the need of any modifications to them.

The fact that Medal of Honor is now working without the need of the game update, makes me think we were mislead by the news that 3.42 brought new EBOOT keys. Unless JasonMckey somehow dumped the keys and that is what he implemented (which seems highly unlikely). Instead it seems 80010019 is just an error that prevents version tampering with the PARAM.SFO by double checking a version in the EBOOT.BIN. However, please note this is just speculation based on JasonMckey’s twitter posts.

On another note, support for 3.41 Kiosk consoles was also recently added to PL3 by Mark Webber. Those of you with store/kiosk demo PS3 units can now join the jailbreaking party!

KaKaRoToKS: Just added a patch to PL3 that fixed 80010019 error of MOH… works with no update necessary now. Patched thx to @JasonMcKey

KaKaRoToKS: Added a new payload to PL3 which is equivalent to hermes’s “patched mode”. Now games compat should be 100%. MOH just works, no hacks needed.
