    Welcome to *Storage war*.

Some days ago i posted about install size of BF4 on PS4. Now COD Ghosts install size is bigger than Killzone:Shadowfall.
It’s confirmed that it’s going to need 45GB on your HDD for mandatory install but then something happened so it will require 49GB.
A new *War* started. Storage wars.

    To quote:

Game cases are slowly being unearthed, with Killzone: Shadow Fall already being available in stores and now withCall of Duty: Ghosts being launched in less than 12 hours. That also means fans are mostly looking at what the install sizes will be on their brand new PlayStation 4.

With 500GB at launch, you might think that you’re set for a while, though, that might not be the case. Killzone already confirmed that it’s going to need 45GB on your HDD for its mandatory install, and now it looks like Call of Duty: Ghosts will require 49GB.

That’s essentially 100GB for those two shooters alone. But hang on, it might not be as bad as we think. The giant PS4 FAQ mentioned that physical copies will required cached installs. From that wording alone, it’s easy to assume that once you’re done playing the game, all the data simply deletes itself, and won’t need to be reinstalled until you start playing again. Given that you can play while you install would definitely support this theory. Or maybe the game deletes the data only when you insert a different game into the PS4.

This would make much more sense, especially for those that plan on indulging themselves with every launch game available, not to mention games like DCUO and Planetside 2.

Getting a little tired about how much RAM this, how much RAM that to be honest. Oddworld dev; Stewart seems happy with those 8GB operating around 172GB/s. I guess i will be happy too don’t worrying so much about ram limitations.

Oddworld developer Just Add Water is the latest studio to speak out about the joys of working with the PlayStation 4.

In an interview with Gaming Bolt, development director Stewart Gilray emphasised that the 8GB GDDR5 RAM which helps power PS4 has aided the development process.

“It means we don’t have to worry so much about stuff, the fact that the memory operates at around 172GB/s is amazing, so we can swap stuff in and our as fast as we can without it really causing us much grief,” said Gilray.

“It also means we can do a lot of lead development on high end PC’s without having to worry overly about RAM limitations or graphics features our target platform DOESN’T have. Granted we are working on other platforms that do have those restrictions but the Unity Engine has helped minimize those.”

The developer said that it hasn’t yet started to look at ways to implement the DualShock 4’s touchpad into the PS4 version of its latest game Oddworld: New ‘n Tasty just yet but plans to release the title on Sony’s next-gen platform in 2014.

Ahead of the imminent PS4 release date, Sony has confirmed that the level of investment poured into its next-generation console is considerably lower than that heaped on the PS3.

Despite have spent years developing its fourth-generation PlayStation console, Sony has revealed that in a bid to reduce the level of losses it saw with the PS3, the level of PS4 investment has been “much, much smaller” than on its past console efforts.

“The amount of investment [in PS4] is much, much smaller,” Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Masaru Kato said. Remaining vague on exactly how much less investment the company had given the PS4, he added: “I cannot give you the absolute amount.”

Although the PS3 launched way back in late 2006, Sony has openly acknowledged that due to the high level of investment heaped on the console, the much loved gamer did not turn a profit until 2011. Having hit retailers priced £425, Sony sold the PS3 at a considerable loss, with each Blu-ray hosting console originally costing north of $800 (£515) to produce.

Reassuring investors that similar losses will not be repeated with the PS4, Andrew House, Head of Sony Computer Entertainment said “We will not generate anything like the losses we did for the PlayStation 3.”

Although a PS4 release date has yet to be formally confirmed, it is expected that the console will launch sometime between late October and early November. The PS4 price has been formally set at £349, a full £80 cheaper than its leading rival, Microsoft’s soon to launch Xbox One.

Featuring a redesigned DualShock 4 controller, the new PS4 peripheral will feature a touchpad interface and an integrated ‘Share’ button, allowing gamers to upload in-game video clips with speed and ease.

Im sure a few of you know that i created a competition a few days ago, the competition was to create a Cold Boot for the PS3 and win a prize, some of you may have found the process quite awkward, or didnt know where to start, so here is a tutorial created by Holmesinfive:

Rtype a developer from PSX Scene has compiled Hatari for the PS3, Hatari is an Atari Emulator, here is a quote from the read me:

A Lame hatari 1.6.1 DBG release for PS3.

What?: A quick port of hatari 1.6.1 to ps3 using PSL1GHTV2.
Why? : Because i like old atari computer :)
    Who? : Rtype

So far ,i ve just compil the lastest hatari src (1.6.1) with psl1ghtv2 (SDL used) and i only make few hacks to done it work (a little) .
All the credit to the HATARI TEAM ( http://hatari.tuxfamily.org ) and to the PS3DEV team .

    Know Problems:

    - Works only with a keyboard & a mouse cnx to the ps3 !

    - Some pb with SDL1.2 hatari code (ex: code Keysym 1.2 different from 1.3) so i make quick dirty hack , not all the keys are working
and it’s seem to break a lot keyrepeat .

    - Hatari & sdlgui use partial screen update , and PS3 SDL don’t have hardware cursor code , so i make another quick & very bad hack to
show something we can call a mouse pointer (hum i know it’s a square) and force the gui redraw , this make the gui very bad and slow,
and there is a big lag between mouse action and screen update. Apologize for this.

    - In fullscreen mode Gui seem not working correctly so change to desktop mode if needed.

    - XMB seem to freeze PS3 when calling from home button so exit from the gui or AltGr-Q combo.

    - I ve not tested all the option , just few games , so maybe other pb around …

Sorry for all this problems but i hope you enjoy anyway ( i mean Atari lovers ) somes old good games .

    Quick Install & Start:

    - Create somes dir in /dev_hdd0/ :

    /dev_hdd0/HOMEBREW and /dev_hdd0/HOMEBREW/ST/ and /dev_hdd0/HOMEBREW/ST/TOS/ and /dev_hdd0/HOMEBREW/ST/CONF/

    - Put a valid tos named “rom” in:

    - Put some ST/MSA dsk in :

    - Install the pkg .

    works only with a keyboard & a mouse !
    joystick:LSTICK= JOY MOVE CROSS= Button1 SQUARE= button2

Special thanks to PS3DEV guys , KaKaRoTo (very big thanks for your works) , Hermes ,Oopo , Deroad (for help with V2) .

Developers Grimm and Berion have created an application, which checks and PS3 firmware you have downloaded, it reads all information on the firmware and tells you whether the firmware is MFW or OFW, the application also works with PSP and PS Vita firmwares, though the main basis of the application is for PS3 firmwares, here is a quote from the ReadMe:

Custom Firmware Validator is a program designed mainly for veryfing downloaded or manually patched firmwares for PS3. This aplication compares checksums from the database with those which are being calculated on the currently open file. If at least one would match, the following things will appear: the name of the firware and its short description, the option to show the list of additional functions and the option to visit the author’s webpage, also one could copy a file onto USB with the proper directory stuctrure and its name (PS3, PSP, PSV).

Databases are external, written in the stardard XML and UTF-8 coded, so everyone can edit them and propose any possible corrections, what we encourage you to do.

We prepared three different bases for the program (the one for PS3 is loaded by default, but one can choose others from the option menu):
    - The first one for PS3 (currently with all CFW/OFW (*.pup) and upadate packages *.pkg for Rebug and TB dongle).
    - The other ones function as examples and need to be completed.

Please be advised: in order for Custom Firmware Validator to work properly Microsoft .NET Framework 4 at least ver. 4.0 is required. the program works on windows 7 - was not tested on XP, Vista or 8 (Developers/Consumers Preview).

    Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Do you plan to make databases updates?
A: Yes, but only the one for PS3. In this aspect we count on the community’s involvement. ;]

Q: Do you plan to release program updates?
A: Sure, but it depends on whether the submitted errors could be verified and whether we have ideas for new functions.

Q: What checksums are generated and will you add new in the future?
    A: CRC32 (CRC32b), MD5, SHA1, SHA2-224, SHA2-256, SHA2-386 and SHA2-512. In future, probably SHA3. Others not, for the time being.

Q: Can I use CFV in order to generate checksums from other files than consoles’ firmware?
A: Yes, basically the source of no importance, because the program reads descriptions and checksums which can be freely edited and picked from the options menu.

    Q: Is CFV legal?
A: Yes, it is, it doesn’t contain any keys/hashes used to sign files.

Q: Could I modify my console using the program?
    A: Nah…

Before when one wanted to remarry their BD Drive, they needed to downgrade their console to 3.50, but thankfully due to an awesome anonymous person/persons, this can now be accomplished on firmware 3.55, here is a quote from the source:

    Remarry guide for 3.55 firmware

    1. Have the console on a working 3.55 firmware

    2. Download the Remarry files (remarry-3.55.rar) and unpack to root of USM Mass Storage device. The following line is already changed from 1 to 0:

    # Install Systemsoftware
    # 0 = sȂ
    # 1 = s

This will make sure the drive init PUP is not installed, thus preventing RLOD because of syscon hashes on downgraded consoles.

    3. Download official firmware <=3.30 as drive init PUP and put it root of USB Mass Storage device

Content of USB Mass Storage device should be thus be:

    • Lv2diag.self
    • manufacturing_updater_for_reset.self
    • fdm_spu_module.self
    • cfg/standalone.cfg

    4. Put the service mode JIG/dongle/PSGrade into port 0 (closest to the reader) and get into factory service mode.

    5. Put the created USB Mass Storage device from step 3 into port 0 (closest to the reader) and run.

Drive Init Executing means it is starting the remarry process
Drive Init Failed with big pink letters ‘NG’ (No Good!) means the process failed. Most likely solved by fixing the communication issue with the drive.

    6. After you run the initial remarry process, do not take it out of factory service mode.

    7. Put a BD movie disc in and run it on the PS3. (This restores your DRL files!)

    8. Then you can take it out of factory service mode.

    9. Launch as normal.

    Source and files

Remember, that all and everything related to the PS3 can be found at:

Thanks euss for the tip :)

    - Small error fixed, FDM is resigned proper now for all versions (3.15, 3.50, 3.55)

    ^previous posted question, answered:

    - Yes, PUP files are international, nothing PAL/Euro or NTSC/USA about them ;)

    - For Bluray playback prohibited errors, you can use
    + Remarry, or the
    DRL tools.
For the latter you dont need the exact last played disc, just the highest keyversion that was used.

    - In some rare cases enabling QA-extra solves dive init issues.

Im sure all of you know who CondorStrike is by now, he is the creator of the awesome ‘Solar’ app, today he has released an app, that should save a bit of time and the annoyance of holding the power button.

His app, puts the PS3 into a pseudo recovery mode, without having to go into recovery by holding the power button, here is a quote from the source:

This app allows pseudo-recovery mode system firmware update from xmb.
I’ve tested it with Rogero CFW and Kmeaw, but should work with any Firmware that allows the PKG to install.
No more hold down power crap…lol.

If anyone wants to try on 3.55+ to try and downgrade, my answer is try it…what’s there to loose…
It should also work on PSP and PS VITA, but I haven’t tested.
I think this is a very handy app, and as always, I hope you enjoy my releases…caw!

    Install PKG.
    Run Condor Updater.

I am not liable if this application disables or damages your console and or handheld, use at your own risk.

French Developer Markus95, has released an awesome mod for Paintown, here is a quote from the source:

My Mod is dedicated to one of my favorite manga: Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) . This is no more than a first version, far from being finished, but already well supplied … J ‘I gathered the bulk of the manga, trying to be as faithful to the work of the great original Masami Kurumada . I have therefore taken the broad outlines of this fabulous manga, my Mod starts at the beginning of the latter and end at the end of the period of the Sanctuary (which for me is the best part of the work of the master …)

Well its been a while since i last held a competition, so i thought id start my first one of 2012, which should be fun for all of you that decide to participate. You will have a chance to win $50 PSN card or for those of you on CFW a chance to have $50 credited to your PayPal account, now onto what you have to do.

To have a chance of winning:

    • Be a member of the forum.
    • Create a custom colour PS3 Cold Boot, it can be still image or animated, as long as it is Colour.
    • The Cold Boot MUST be your own work.(If work is found to be someone else, immediate disqualification)
    • The Cold Boot MUST come with a preview image.(If a preview is not posted, then the Cold Boot cannot be judged)
    • The Cold Boot must not be the same as someone elses, this is one of the reasons previews are a must, if you see an earlier Cold Boot that is the same as yours, then create a new one.
    • If you have created a custom Colour Cold Boot in the past four weeks, then you are eligible to enter.
    • Adding a sound that accompanies your ColdBoot may help you get more likes, also adding a video showcasing your finished product may also help
    • The Rules are 100% clear, any post on this thread which asks a stupid question, or does not have a Cold Boot in the post, will be deleted.
    • I will be adding my on created ColdBoots, but i am auto disqualified, so like away :)
    • Finally, EVERYONE can enter, Moderators, Admins, TizzyT, Homebrew Developers etc, as long as you have followed the above rules :)

Here is a sample of a preview image: The above Cold Boot is the work of CrystalWolf and can be downloaded here.

What Software Do I Need To Create A Cold Boot:

    • PhotoShop.
    • TizzyT’s Playstation Color Logo Creator v2(CLICK TO DOWNLOAD)

For those of you that may be struggling or not understand what to do, then join IRC and speak to TizzyT, you can find us on irc.ps3sanctuary.com.

Or view this video by Holmesinfive

The competition will run from now until the 31st of March, with the Winner being announced on Pirates birthday(1st April) So you have plenty of time and chance to win, anyone can enter as long as the work is yours.

The winner will be selected using by the amount of likes the Cold Boot receives, note that if you enter multiple Cold Boots, you will not win if all your Cold Boots likes combine to the highest, it is the single post/Cold Boot with the highest that will win.

Ok guys, i have moved all the posts with no ColdBoots in them to this thread:
Anyone that needs help, go to that thread, any posts not containing a ColdBoot, will automatically be moved to that thread.

Most of you think of a Backup manager when the name ‘Rogero’ is mentioned, but the cool PS3 Dev also creates MFW/CFW, which is dedicated for those of you that downgrade, but can be used even if you aren’t a downgrader, here is a quote from the source:

    Usage / Compatibility:

    • - Can be used for Downgrade directly using a hardware flasher like Progskeet / E3 Flasher / Teensy++, etc…
    • - Can be used for normal system update like any other CFW/MFW from XMB or from Recovery Menu.

    Internal Structure:
    New Features:

    • - Built-in system version spoof to 4.11 to prevent accidental system updates (won’t allow going online in any way)
    • - NoBD Patch to allow installing it with the Blu-Ray drive disconnected (especially for downgrading purposes)
    • - Have other fixes that prevents the Black screen or Payload loading problems encountered on some PS3 systems.

    Standard Features:

    • - Kmeaw patched Lv2 with necessary patches to allow Peek/Poke support (same games compatibility as Kmeaw CFW)
    • - LV1 Checks Disabled to bypass the Syscon hashes for downgraded consoles.
    • - Privacy Patch applied to block communications with all Sony servers.
    • - Custom Boot Logo.
    • - built-in “Heavy Rain” dynamic theme.

This is a better optimized version of the previous MFW released, This one is a Custom firmware
built manually by patching and packing the files and the final PUP package using the well known
“failoverflow” public set of tools and having ”Kmeaw” as the base firmware unlike it’s previous
version which was a Modified firmware built using the famous MFW builder application and using
an OFW3.55 as the base firmware.

After several days and more testing of the first MFW released for downgrading from 3.70->3.55
I had some users feedback from #progskeet-support that some PS3 machines are having either
the Registry Corrupted/Blue Screen or just a Black Screen after downgrade that required re-installing
the MFW from Recovery Menu or reflashing the NOR in some cases.

Further research about the donwgrade V2 patches and the no_check.PUP with some more testing
showed that a Kmeaw based LV2 seems to have better compatibility with the Downgrade patches
applied to the NOR image then a MFW built with a patched LV2, so I decided to build a new version
manually which is a custom firmware that combines Kmeaw LV2 patches with Dospiedras Lv1 no-check
patches and having the minimal/necessary set of patches to preserve the best overall stability.

Thanks to the all the beta testers especially Blakcat & Marlboro1 :)

Im sure you are all aware of the reDRM device known as True Blue, the device that uses stolen code and craps on everything a scene is supposed to be about, a couple of months ago, a clone was released called JB-King and it seems that another clone called JB2USB has been released, or has it.

Ill explain the ‘or has it’ part
A few days ago, PS3HaX member warning made this post:

Then yesterday news emerges about JB2USB which claims to be a clone of True Blue, here is some information on the device:

The device retails at $19.99 as well.

So your opinion, is it a new clone, or is it the True Blue devs with a new device ?

PS3 Developer CrashSerious and his team have released an update to their Factory Service Mode tool, the application that allows you to enter Service mode, without any rubbish dongles, here is the changelog, followed by the readme:

    LV2 restart
    logging overhauled (more verbose)
added peek/poke test with error logging
added hvcall 114 test with error logging
    Copies Lv2diag_exit.self to dev_usb000
^^^^ (user would need to rename to use it)

    Look ma, no Downgrade Dongle

In keeping with our Red Valentines theme this month… we release another red themed app.
Tonight, in our second release we bring you a second handy app that continues our
commitment to the removal or the need for ANY dongles. A simple app that should likely
make it into everyone’s PS3 tool set. An XMB application that places the PS3 into factory
service mode. Now, You can now throw away that downgrade dongle! Also, as an added bonus
we’ve included CEX and DEX versions of the pkg.

Psgrade was ported to all sorts of devices, even calculators … none of those external
devices are needed any longer! You may now re-purpose them!

When you run the app it will beep once and reboot if successful. Three beeps indicates a
failure, report the contents of factory.txt in this thread for help. (Factory.txt will
save to the USB flash if you put on in the right most USB port of the PS3.) At this point
you will come back up in Factory Service Mode (FSM). Place the Lv2Diag.self on the USB the
Lv2diag.self will perform its intended purpose automatically. So be aware of that feature
should you not be expecting the PS3 to boot back into the non-FSM XMB.

This app will not work on any of the “reDRM” firmwares, aka Cobra or TrueBlue CFW.

    1. Install the appropriate pkg for your system; FactoryServiceMode.gnpdrm.pkg for CEX and
FactoryServiceMode.pkg for DEX. Leave the USB Flash Drive in the PS3.
    2. Run the app and listen for the single beep, you should enter FSM automatically.
    3. rename/copy the Lv2diag_exit.self on the root of the FLASH Drive to Lv2diag.self
Note: This release simply exits FSM. Do NOT use the RSOD Lv2Diag released earlier unless you have RSOD.
    4. Place the USB Flash Drive in the right most USB port of the PS3.
    5. Restart the PS3. When it boots up, you will be out of FSM.
    5. Enjoy sticking it to the dongle makers in your own little way.

The app detects the firmware you are running on so it should work on all the firmwares
supported by “one” previously. (3.15, 3.41, and 3.55. Basically, Ones that are lower than
3.56.) During creation of this tool, the open-source ps3toolchain, and a slightly modified
make_self were utilized. All code is original and makes use of no previously released or copyrighted
code, this Lv2diag.self is made 100% with the PSL1GHT SDK so it can be shared freely and without
concern for breaking any laws in your country. So, “no sony code inside!”

Q: Can I use this with the RSOD fix self you released earlier?
A: You should only use the RSOD fix Lv2Diag.self to repair a RSOD PS3. Use the suplied Lv2diag.self
packaged with this release to simply get out of service mode.

    Q: I’m having problems… help!!!!?!?!?!?
A: Post the contents of the factory.txt, which is stored on the root of the USB flash drive where
you put Lv2Diag.self, along with a detailed explanation and we will try to help you out. Without
the contents of the factory.txt file… we will not be able to help.

Q: Why didn’t you just name the release .self file Lv2diag.self and save us a step?
A: We intend to release more fun tools for you at some point, this just helps you keep them
    straight from the start.

Q: It doesn’t beep a single time for me, it beeps 3 times and goes back to the XMB. Can you help?
A: We attempted to fixed this in the v.2 version of the app, ensure you have that one installed. If
you do have that installed. Run the app a second time, without shutting down or restarting the PS3.

Q: I see this, “ERROR: failed to read EPROM”, in the factory.txt error log. Can you help?
A: You likely heard 3 beeps. We attempted to fixed this in the v.2 version of the app, ensure you
have that one installed. If you do have that installed. Run the app a second time, without shutting
    down or restarting the PS3.

Q: I see this, “ERROR: SS EPROM read error returned: 1, product_mode: 0″, in the factory.txt error
    log. Can you help?
A: You likely heard 3 beeps. We attempted to fixed this in the v.2 version of the app, ensure you
have that one installed. If you do have that installed. Run the app a second time, without shutting
    down or restarting the PS3.

Q: I see this, “ERROR: LV1 mmap hvcall 114 not available:”, in the factory.txt error log. Can you help?
A: You likey have OFW (With Original PSJB Dongle even) or a reDRM Firmware. You will need to switch to
a MFW to get this application to work.

Q: I see this, “ERROR: LV2 poke syscall not available:”, in the factory.txt error log. Can you help?
A: You likey have OFW (With Original PSJB Dongle even) or a reDRM Firmware. You will need to switch to
a MFW to get this application to work.

Q: I get a 80010505 error in factory.txt on the USB drive sometimes. HELP!?!?!
A: We noticed this on one Phat CECHG system in testing. but could not replicate it on other PS3′s
and it only occured after the initial run from a power on of the PS3. In this case, every time we
ran it a second time the application worked with out fail. Try again and post the factory.txt if the
    problem persists.

Q: Could you have made this just a little easier to use?
    A: Nope! ;-)

Some nice news from a ‘real’ developer as opposed to some random text editors.

PS3 Homebrew game developer ThatOtherDev has released a Homebrew game called Neo Trail, here is a quote from the source:

In Neo Trail you control a ship that is constantly moving forward. Once you pass over a square on the grid it will begin to raise up. If you get pushed up onto the top of a fully raised block then the game will reset.

The high score is displayed but not saved.

I’m not sure if it’s similar enough to be considered a clone (although that is what it was originally going to be) but it’s obviously inspired by that movie. You know the one.

Later I might add split screen multiplayer and/or an NPC to play against.

Im sure you all know of the popular text edit mistake, discovered by DeViL303, that resulted in XMB Filemanager, well he got together with a bunch of other text editors over at PS3Crunch.

Anyhow, these guys, which includes work from developer aldostool, have released XMB Manager Plus, here is a quote from the source:

XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+) is a new XMB category based off of REBUG’s “Package Manager”, which is a modded version of the official (debug/Jailbreak) “Install Package Files” XMB option.

This will replace the “Install Package Files” option or for REBUG CFW “Package Manager”.

XMB Manager Plus allows the entire PS3 filesystem to be browsed and/or deleted (all file types supported), We have added functions to REBUG’s
“Package Manager” and renamed it to “Package Manager Plus”, it consists of all previous features plus it now includes new Homebrew Category that has
options to download a selection of popular PS3 homebrew packages. We have also added a new “Game Data Manager” that contains all games data type
tools, like saves, backups, etc. There are plenty more options also available in this new update, see the changelog below.

    Main Features in XMBM+ v0.10

    Package Manager Plus
Allows homebrew/packages to be easily downloaded, installed and deleted.

    File Manager Plus
Browse and Delete files from all locations such as hdd, usb, etc.

    Game Data Manager
Includes all the game data tools from main XMB plus some more additions. Things like Gamedata, Savedata, Backups and trophys are contained here.

    Multi-Media Manager
Browse, Copy, Rename and Play all your PS3′s internal hdds media from one location. All options from the normal XMB categories are available in
    one new combined category.

    Web Links
This section includes links to some popular websites for easier access.

Contains XMBM+ info, links to TBCrunch release thread, updater option, etc.
