LV2 Loader is a tool for devs to allow the quick testing of modified lv2_kernel.self by launching it from the root of dev_flash without the risk of bricking the PS3 or need for a flasher if the new kernel does not work.

The app will run on any 3.15, 3.41, 3.55 CEX or DEX firmware that has lv1 mmap and lv2 peek and poke patches. It also has udp_printf support which will return the offset of the lv2 boot path in lv1 and a little bit of info about what it is doing.

It works by searching lv1 memory for the lv2_kernel.self boot path then modifying it to point to the root of dev_flash instead. After it finishes searching and patching the path LV2 Loader will reboot lv2 gameos without rebooting lv1.

If the app has already been ran once and the user attempts to run it again before rebooting lv1 or the current lv2 kernel does not have peek and poke it will return you to the XMB.

    PREPARATION:

Using FTP or multiMAN/file manager place your modified lv2_kernel.self into the root of dev_flash on your PS3.

    HOW TO USE:

    1: Install lv2_loader.pkg
2: Run LV2 Loader from XMB
3: PS3 will beep and reboot. (If you do not hear a beep it has not worked)

    NOTE:

As long as you do not reboot lv1 you can continue to use the new path and change the lv2_kernel.self each time if you wish.

    F.A.Q:

    Q: Can LV2 Loader boot DEX lv2_kernel.self?

A: YES. It will require your PS3 to be QA flagged. Don’t be fooled though. Just because you can boot the DEX lv2 kernel does not mean it will magically function like a DEX. For that to happen it will require more patching but this certainly makes the road easier to figuring it out.

Q: Can LV2 Loader boot lv2_kernel.self from a higher firmware?

A: In testing, booting a 3.56 lv2 kernel resigned for 3.55 worked without any problems. Keep in mind that amongst other things, the ps3 is still using the lower firmware’s appldr so there is no real advantage to doing this at the moment.

Q: Can this brick my PS3?

A: NO, NO, NO. The whole point of LV2 Loader is to prevent this from happening during your development of lv2 patches.

Q: Isn’t the offset for the lv2 boot path the same for all PS3?

A: NO. In testing on five different PS3 we came across seven dramaticly different offsets. Infact one of the PS3 at one stage or another in testing used four of the same offsets as the others and has now returned to the original offset from when we started.

Q: How do I reboot the PS3 without rebooting lv1 hypervisor?

A: Using glevend’s Reboot app will let you reboot the PS3 and maintain the modified lv2 boot path. As a bonus for REBUG users when changing modes with Rebug Selector the PS3 will reboot from the new path as well.

Q:As a user of REBUG firmware, if I boot the DEX lv2 kernel does that mean I am running DEX firmware on a retail PS3?

A: YES. REBUG uses the entire DEX firmware apart from 3 or 4 sprx (to allow QA flag support mainly) and uses the CEX lv2_kernel.self. Booting the DEX lv2_kernel.self will in effect, complete the set.

    Enjoy.

The REBUG team never disappoint the scene and this time they’ve introduced what they call “Toggle QA”. This package basically allows you to SET/RESET your QA Flag.

*** THIS SOFTWARE WRITES TO THE PS3 EEPROM – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ****

After having to QA a few PS3 in a row. Then installing a different firmware straight after, it was time to cut out the middleman.

Toggle QA will SET/RESET the QA Flag and Token on any 3.41 or 3.55 firmware that has lv1 mmap and lv2 peek and poke patches (which is most of them).

When you run the app it first detects if the PS3 is 3.41 or 3.55. Next it will check if your firmware has any of the required lv1 patches already and only patch the hypervisor with the ones you need. After it finishes patching Toggle QA will check the status of the QA Flag and SET/RESET it accordingly. Then once the QA SET/RESET is done any lv1 patches made will be removed.

    HOW TO USE:
    1: Install toggle_qa.pkg
2: Run Toggle QA from XMB
3: PS3 will beep and return to XMB. (If you do not hear a beep it has not worked)

NOTE: Every now and then it will hang on the lv1 patching stage. If it has not beeped and returned to the XMB after about 30secs you will need to reboot and try again.

    Enjoy.

*********** THIS WILL NOT WORK ON REBUG FIRMWARE ***********

Sorry on the delay, 3.73 Version Spoofer 2.1 is now available for 3.41 and 3.55. This time around we have added a little extra flavour in the form of reActPSN 2.0 compatibility for both your normal and spoofed vsh.self. As most of you know already, there is a dongle out there in the wild, a dongle manufactured/created by so called scene developers, who in reality should be giving this device or method of exploit for free, like so, so may great developers in the PS3 scene have done, the dongle i am talking about, that sucks the very last drop of blood from the PS3 Scene, is “True Blue”.

Anyhow, enough honesty about the device, onto the real reason for creating this news post, is that the awesome guys behind Rebug, have released a True Blue friendly version of their Rebug CFW for those naive enough to buy the dongle, here is a quote from Rebugs website:

*** WARNING – DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF YOU DO NOT OWN A TRUE BLUE DONGLE ***

After thinking it over the team came to the conclusion that in the not to distant future, there will be a whole lot of unhappy REBUG users who want to enjoy their new True Blue Dongle only to realise that their hard earned save games which ran using the Fake Save Data Owner option will no longer work.

As a courtesy for our loyal users we have put together REBUG 3.55.2 TB EDITION.

The Codename: Rebug Team take NO CREDIT for the COREOS work as we are using the True Blue CFW COREOS with the REBUG dev_flash files (straight swap, everything works so far!!).

    FEATURES INCLUDED/ADDED/UPDATED

INCLUDED – All REBUG 3.55.2 Features

INCLUDED – True Blue CFW COREOS
(Requires True Blue Dongle to run True Blue patched 3.60+ Games)

    ADDED – reActPSN 2.0 compatibility
    (Credit to Hotz8611)

ADDED – No act.dat deletion on reboot
(This is our own. We feel it is a little bit cleaner than the original reActPSN 2.0 patch)

UPDATED – 3.73 Version Spoof files

    UPDATED – Rebug Selector 1.5.1 & 1.6.1
(Finally got around to fixing the display resolution on HD tv’s)

    INSTALL:
REBUG 3.55.2 TB EDITION can be installed over the same or lower version OFW/CFW/MFW on any model PS3 through the XMB or Recovery Mode.

    UNINSTALL:
REBUG 3.55.2 TB EDITION can be uninstalled with the same version OFW/CFW/MFW on any model PS3 through the XMB or Recovery Mode.

    PLAYING BACKUPS:
Just like the Official True Blue CFW, after installing REBUG 3.55.2 TB EDITION the True Blue Dongle MUST be connected to the PS3 for ANY of your backups to run.

NOTE: Rebug Selector 1.5.1 and 1.6.1 are identical in their function but for some reason on random PS3 Rebug Selector 1.5.1 (Which we consider to be the more user-friendly) freezes. We have included them both just incase.

    Enjoy

raxxus from a german board has released a translation for Rebug 3.55.2 CFW. He has also created 2 tasks for PS3MFW Builder, which you will need if you want to create the MFW yourself. But there is also a pre-made pup for the lazy folks out there, thanks to nuck1982 for uploading.

It is only the resource-files (icons and texts) nothing else.

I’ve also enclosed a nice “write-flash” tool with which you can share resources easily. It only writes in the “dev_flash / vsh / resource”-folder, nowhere else.

Created 2 folder on a USB-Stick, “modz” and “backup”. The backup must be created manually by simply save the resource folder under “dev_flash / vsh / resource” somewhere. Copy the original rco files, which you will change, in the backup folder and put the modded files (from the download; without the pkg and the tcl’s of course!) into the “modz” folder. The tool ES35 Cutomize explains by itself in the options. Or simply use the latest Multiman and copy the files manually into folders using new flash-write function.

Some debug entries sound better in English and I did not translate some deliberate ..

I have made a task for the ps3mfwbuilder on my own. It allows you to patch the official rebug 3.55.2 pup with the update files from 0.4, the privacy patch and the modded rcos.

Simply extract the update pkg 0.4 from rebug, and specify the files from the update_files folder, as well as the modded rcos when creating the pup. Everything else runs automatically.

About the privacy patch: I’ve intentionally omitted playstation.net, otherwise some psn games do not run.

I’m just a small rebug fan, not more ..

    - Integrated Rebug Update 0.4 Package
    - Suppressed some communication to advertising partners of Sony (Sony is not patched, some PSN would not longer run)
    - Integrated Rebug Selector 1.6
    - TV menu is now called ‘Werkzeuge’ (due to the creator of the files, because it uses TV as a Homebrew Channel)

Otherwise nothing has changed in the firmware. I have tested the firmware and everything works. The thanks goes to raxxus for the provision of the files and the task for the MFW Builder.

cyberskunk has released two very useful PKG’s, one called Boot OtherOS++, which as the name suggests, boots OtherOS and OtherOS prep Tool, which prepares your PS3 HDD for installing Linux, here is a quote from the source:

OtherOS Prep Tool is used to prepare your system vflash and install petitboot ready to install Linux. IT DOES NOT INSTALL LINUX. For tutorials and videos on how to install Linux head over to gitbrew.org. OtherOS Prep Tool is based off of graf_chokolo’s and glevand’s source and is a one or two step solution to getting petitboot up and running and on your way to installing Linux on to USB or PS3 Hard Disk. At the moment it only supports 3.55 but we will add support for lower firmware soon.

    REQUIREMENTS
16MB NOR PS3 (Model CECHH or Higher)
    3.55 OtherOS++ enabled firmware installed

(If you want to use REBUG 3.55.1 grab PS3MFW Builder 0.2 Portable
from here with the tasks pre-selected to add OtherOS++ support)

    FEATURES

One Step Prep if installing OtherOS to USB Hard Disk

Two Step Prep if installing OtherOS to PS3 Hard Disk

Resize vflash to 6 different sizes

    (Original, 11GB, 22,GB, 43GB, 65GB and 83GB)

Create or Delete vflash region 5, 6 and 7 separately

Create or Delete ALL vflash regions at once

dtbImage.ps3.bin included in pkg (no need to have it ready on USB)

    Install different dtbImage.ps3.bin from USB

Checks that vflash region 7 create matches vflash size

Detects and displays current vflash size on start up

Auto matches new size to current size on start up

If you can use PS3MFW Builder 0.2, then you can add OtherOS++ support to your Rebug CFW, the rebug guys have released a .tcl task file, here is a tutorial on how to use it:

    CREATE OTHEROS++ ENABLED REBUG FW:
If you want to OtherOS++ enable REBUG we have provided the .tcl task file for patching the Lv1 Hyperviser with PS3MFW Builder 0.2. It is the EXACT patch_lv1.tcl from gitbrew.org minus the lv1 memory mapping as it is already patched in REBUG. We can not take any credit for the task file or PS3MFW Builder 0.2 Portable. We have provided them at the bottom of this post for your convenience as we didn’t fell releasing a new PUP just to add these patches was necessary.

1: Add the .tcl file to the tasks folder of PS3MFW Builder 0.2. It will appear as OtherOS++ Lv1 Hypervisor patches for REBUG in the task list.

2: Deselect ALL tasks except OtherOS++ Lv1 Hypervisor patches for REBUG.

3: Use REBUG firmware as your input firmware.

4: Select output directory and filename.

    5: Click on Build MFW

6: Rename output PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and install on the PS3.

    OR

1: Download PS3MFW Bulder 0.2 Portable Win32 from the bottom of this post

(All of the tasks have been pre-selected for you).

    2: Click on ps3mfw.exe

3: Use REBUG firmware as your input firmware.

4: Select output directory and filename.

    5: Click on Build MFW

6: Rename output PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and install on the PS3.

Your new REBUG PUP will have the same OtherOS++ compatibility as OtherOS++ CFW.

The newly released PS3 game , Brink, requires firmware 3.60 to play, with EBOOT encrypted with 3.60 keys. However, a Sony retail patch for the game was released and in the patch the EBOOT uses 3.55 keys. With a quick edit in the SFO this game can be modified to run on 3.55.1 Rebug CFW. A few people report that it also works with Kmeaw CFW, but no official word on that yet.

A new stealth version of Rebug has been released for 3.55 and 3.41. This is a stealth mod which allows you to spoof your console ID – just a small precaution to prevent you from getting your PS3 banned (no guarantees).

I (blazie151) made a stealthed version of Rebug 3.55 and 3.41. These versions include ce24 and ce27 for Console ID spoofing. Keep in mind at this time F***PSN and ce27 are useless since F***PSN doesn’t blank your Console ID on SP-INT. For that reason I included ce24 as well, so that you can blank your console id with charles. This also has a stealthed version of rebug selector tested working. Its stealthed as the tetris demo, so if you have that game already, use my homebrew stealthing application and stealth it as something else. The 3.41 version has a stealthed rebug selector and the h4c payload stealthed too, both tested working.

    How to use:

To use it, place rebug’s 3.55v1 or 3.41v2 pup in the same folder with the files provided in this post, and double click patch.bat. MD5 hashes included.

For the worrying ones, I didn’t modify anything in coreos, so the brick risk is the same as rebugs cfw. It is tested as well. All this does is add in my stealth measures to the pup before flashing it. All credit still goes to rebug.

A few days ago we told you about how you can get online with Rebug CFW and play on the “dev-PSN” servers – well the problem with this method was you are playing on development servers for devs and it was a different pool of people than the retail PSN. Two tools have been released/updated today enabling you to easily play on retail PSN via SP-INT option on the Rebug CFW (tutorial here).

    Server Mapper v1.1

Server Mapper v1.1 is basically the tool that allows you to play on retail/normal PSN via SP-INT. All you need for this to work is the SERVER IP of the game you wish to connect to with retail PSN. Even though the screenshot says “Call of Duty” server mapper – it works for almost ALL PS3 games.

1- You need to install Rebug 3.55 CFW (here)

2- Now you need to set Original PSN to Dev PSN Go to Debug Settings-> NP Environment-> Change to “sp-int”

3- Run Cex Dex Rebug selector (it’s under Package Manager, in PS3 HDD) set it to REBUG MODE and you are spoofed.

PS: if still cant connect you may need to set “sp-int” agin.

4- Now You need to make a new account on PSN you can set everything random but the PSN ID must be the same of the account on Original PSN or COD will not load your stats (lvl, classes, ect).

5- Now you need to set on your PS3 on Internet Connection Setting as Primary DNS the LOCAL IP of you PC (192.168.XXX.XXX) and as Secondary your modem IP OR “8.8.8.8″

5- Start the my tool and make sure it’s showing the right Local IP (192.168.XXX.XXX) then press OK.

    [Download Server Mapper v1.1]
    [VIA NGU]

    Eboot Server Retriever

So where do you grab the server IP from? Well good ole’ d0zs has got you covered. Eboot Server Retriever basically retrieves a list of servers detected in an EBOOT.BIN/ELF – just select your eboot, it will spit out the retail server and plug them into Server Mapper!

You can also just copy n paste retail server IP’s for certain games. Below is a compiled list (by ryukis215) of the popular games. “Dev Server IP” is on left, “Prod Server IP” is on right. (more…)

Rebug team have been hard at work lately presenting us with one more release the new 3.56 spoof, basically it allows every machine that can run homebrew to spoof 3.56 firmware! it will not allow PSN through normal methods, if you want psn you still need to use the dns methods.

Here is a quote from rebug.me

***** THIS DOES NOT ALLOW PSN ACCESS *****

3.56 Version Spoofer does exactly what it says and can restore back to 3.55 if needed. It was never intended to allow PSN access but to stop the system from updating to 3.56(I made it shortly after KaKaRoToKS had his false alarm).

Once the PS3 is spoofed it will stay spoofed until it is uninstalled.

Press CROSS to INSTALL 3.56 Version Spoof

Press CIRCLE to UNINSTALL 3.56 Version Spoof

    There you have it guys!

Following their last week release of Rebug, cyberskunk and evilsperm just released their new version of rebug packed in a PUP file.

    Quoting from cyberskunk over psx-scene

    *** Rebug 3.41 1.0.1 Beta signed PUP – TRUE ****

INSTALL: Through XMB (No jailbreak needed to install)

UNINSTALL: Through XMB (Use Retail 3.41 update)

KNOWN BUG: When exiting from a BD/DVD or GAME when NOT in JB mode the PS3 will restart..

This only occurs when the PS3 is NOT jailbroken and NO data is lost when it happens.. I am trying to fix the issue now but thought that since it is a beta people that haven’t tried it yet can at least easily preview Rebug and if the exit bug mentioned above is too annoying simply update back to retail without losing any saves, game data, etc..

KNOWN BUG: Unable to install Rebug 3.41E Beta from ‘recovery mode’.

PS3 will error while unpacking the Rebug 3.41E Beta PUP file in ‘recovery mode’. The machine will restart as normal with no data lost.

NOTE: It is recommended that users of the previous Rebug pack install DO NOT update with this as it will install the the annoying exit bug mentioned above.. If you have installed it and would like to return back to the pack install you will have to run the Retail 3.41 update first.. No data will be lost doing this..

    Enjoy.. Cyberskunk..

Nothing has changed since last release (no PSN yet) this release was just to make some use of kakaroto’s firmware packer, and is more noob friendlier, meaning for those of you that don’t want to mess with de_flash just use this version that is a pup installer, if for some reason you want to uninstall and return to the original firmware just overwrite it with the original 3.41 PUP, it couldn’t be easier!!

So everyone say your thanks to cyberskunk and Evilsperm, for their rebug release ;)

This is some interesting work being done by CyberSkunk. He has secretly been working underground on a way to convert RETAIL PS3 units to DEBUG PS3 unit and the project is very near done to completion. He has posted a video for us to devour below.

    To quote:

He has been working on turning a retail console into a debug console through the use of firmware loader. The reason we are sharing this now is to show that it is nearly complete. Most of this work has been done for quite some time just not shared with the public, but seeing its nearly complete you will get a preview of things to come. Once we have our full debug dumps you can expect 100% debug features on a retail console (currently we only have partial dumps). I have left a few things out in the video that I will take screenshots of like *check although we have it enabled its grayed out, also auto download is now gone just like a TEST unit. We will keep you posted as we make more progress in the coming days. Please do not ask when we will release this because we ourselves don’t know when it will be finished.

    System In The Video:

    US – PS3 Slim 120Gb
    Teensy ++ 2.0
    1Gb USB Stick (Rebug)

Cool stuff indeed, stay tuned for updates.
