Some nice news from a ‘real’ developer as opposed to some random text editors.

PS3 Homebrew game developer ThatOtherDev has released a Homebrew game called Neo Trail, here is a quote from the source:

In Neo Trail you control a ship that is constantly moving forward. Once you pass over a square on the grid it will begin to raise up. If you get pushed up onto the top of a fully raised block then the game will reset.

The high score is displayed but not saved.

I’m not sure if it’s similar enough to be considered a clone (although that is what it was originally going to be) but it’s obviously inspired by that movie. You know the one.

Later I might add split screen multiplayer and/or an NPC to play against.

    PS3 controls:
    Analog sticks = Turn

ThatOtherDev has been hard at work again, and this time has released an update to his popular Homebrew game Maze Generator. For those that have been on this site for a while may have heard about this game a long time ago. Here’s a quote:

This is an update/remake of Maze Generator for PS3. For anyone that doesn’t know Maze Generator was actually the first thing I ever made for PS3. It was originally made with the leaked SDK but has been redone using PSL1GHT and will now work on CFW. It now also has a lot more in common with it’s Wii version and features a title screen, textured background, multiple maze sizes and the option to watch the maze being randomly generated. It also keeps track of how many times you have finished mazes.

Just use the left analog stick to navigate the maze.

ThatOtherDev’s popular homebrew game, They Do Not Die 2 has been updated to version 0.6 bringing you 4 player Co-op gameplay and other major changes. Check out the changelog and controls below:

Here is another updated version of They Do Not Die 2. Not a lot has changed but there is now a Wii version.

    Notable changes:
You can now play with up to four people (it was previously limited to two).

The position and size of the health and energy bars during multiplayer has changed.

There are now four different kinds of wooden crates (the differences are only cosmetic).

Menu text is larger and the title looks better.

Game saving and loading is even faster.

    PS3 controls:
    Left analog stick = Move

    Right analog stick = Aim

L1 = Fire the rocket launcher

R1 = Fire the machine gun

    L2 = Fire the shotgun

ThatOtherDev is the only Homebrew game developer who is constant with his releases, here he brings out an update to his Slime Roll game, here is a quote from the changelog

    Changelog:
The red circles have been removed and replaced with blue ones that are of a consistent size.
If slime comes in contact with a blue circle then the blue circle becomes slime.
There is on screen text that tells you how many blue circles still exist.
When placing slime in the editor you no longer need to press and release the button for each piece of slime.
There is a limit to how closely you can place two pieces of slime together in the editor.
The same rules for placing slime in the editor also apply to the blue circles.
You can now delete whatever object you are pointing at in the editor (instead of only being able to delete the last thing spawned).
The X in the editor has been replaced with a proper reticule.
There is a slightly nicer title at the menu.
All on screen text fills the same percentage of the screen regardless of resolution.
I’ve fixed the problem where there would sometimes be inappropriate white pixels along the edges of circles.
    gravity is slightly stronger.
    PS3 controls:
Left analog stick = Move the camera
L1 and R1 = rotate the camera and the direction of gravity
L2 and R2 = zoom the camera in and out
X (in the editor) spawn a wall (hold and drag to scale)
Circle (in the editor) spawn a blue blob
Square (in the editor) spawn slime
Triangle (in the editor) remove whatever you are pointing at

ThatOtherDev has been hard at work at another game and this time he released a two player fighting game.

This is a first version of something I have put together for the soon closing Scenery Beta 2011 international homebrew showcase.

Sketch Fight is a simple two player fighting game with crudely done hand drawn graphics that are intended to look like something a person would doodle when trying to cope with the mind numbing repetition and tedium that is school.

I only have one PS3 controller at the moment so I haven’t been able to test it properly… Let me know if it isn’t controlling correctly.

    PS3 controls:
Left directional button = Move left
Right directional button = Move right
Down directional button = Move crouch
    X button = Jump
    Square button = punch
    Circle button = kick

Note:The controlling does not work correctly. If the second controller is connected, you move both players (with both controllers).
    Thanks Manster for the tip.

ThatOtherDev, creating tons of good homebrew for us, has updated his recent PS3 Homebrew game. He brings forth tons changes and he also added some things.

    Changelog:

    - The walls are solid.

    - The world is darker.

    - The zombies can hurt you and the other survivors.

    - When survivors die they turn into zombies.

    - On screen text shows how much health you have and how many zombies – you have killed.

    - When you are hurt the camera zooms in.

    - When you die the game restarts (complete with a reset kill count and a newly generated city).

    - If you shoot a zombie it will then always consider you its target regardless of any other survivors that may be closer to it.

    - There are more zombies.

    - Everyone moves faster.

    - Buildings are now occasionally subdivided into multiple rooms.

    - The game pauses when the XMB is up.

    PS3 controls:

    Left analog stick = Move

    Right analog stick = Aim

    R1 = Shoot

ThatOtherDev releases a demo of his new game in development, this game looks and has all the potential of being the greatest homebrew game ever made on the PS3, here is a quote from his blog:

I haven’t been posting as much lately but here is something new I’ve been working on. I know I start too many new things but new is interesting and I assure you that I will eventually be going back and updating That Other Space Shooter, Neo Race, Cubicle Shooter, Neo Tanks and all my other stuff. I’ve actually already made a few improvements to That Other Space Shooter and I’ll probably post that sometime soon.

The Untitled Project is (or will be) a sandbox (massive and open ended streaming city) science fiction (think cyberpunk not space opera) RPG.

The setting and a few other things are different but it is in a way a spiritual successor to what The world Drowns would have been. This time around though I’m just doing all the art assets myself.

Use the left analog stick to move
    right analog stick to move
    X to jump
left/right on the directional pad to turn on/off a test texture
up/downt on the directional pad to increase/decrease the draw distance

The demo will occasionally freeze when loading. I know why it does this and will be correcting it soon.

Game saves are now stored on the internal hard drive
Games saves now record blasts and enemies

    Controls:

    Move – Left analog stick
    Aim – Right analog stick
    Shooter – R1
